Agree. Be yourself. At least be creative with self-promotion. Shitpost as a character or draw art or something. (I don't suggest spending six months on a CGI trailer for a book.)

I've gotten to know other authors when they do this, because it said as much about their personality as their fixations.

As a writer, I think I can say that writers are some of the worst follows on social media. Please develop an online personality beyond "I write and promote what I wrote." Shitpost. Share recipes. Post photos of your cat. Or dog, I guess. Be political*. Please, ANYTHING. Be a person 1st, writer 2nd.

I don't think I've come across a poem that taps into my ethos when it comes to navigating queer community within the context of a hostile world as much as "We Have Enough Dead Friends" by Lena Oleanderson.

I strive to make my home a sanctuary where other faggots feel safe and cared for.

But Martel just shook his head. "Let them sleep. Tower-trained humans would be little use where we will go, and two travel much faster. Layer up thick and warm, but flexible. No plate — it will slow you down in the mountains. A quarter bell, then we leave."
Käre glared at him. "Who died and made you cadre commander?"
The Relict merely raised his eyebrow, those strange silver eyes of theirs flashing in the light.
"I traveled in with traders. If we hurry, maybe we still catch them, hey?" Martel said instead, his tone friendly but still as implacable as misteel. "With luck, they will have us there by lunch and back in time for dinner."
It was a sound plan, actually. One Käre couldn't find any fault with.
Which, of course, just made his mood even fouler.
