Cover for Season to Be Witched by Susanna Shore. An illustration of a young woman in red shirt on a mint green illustration of a city. Book description of Season to Be Witched:

When your new boyfriend disappears after the first night together, a lesser woman would panic. Which I did.

Kane has disappeared and Phoebe knows exactly who to blame: Julius Blackhart, the evil mage who wants to take over London. And he’s abducted other mages too. They’ve disappeared without a trace, but Phoebe isn’t about to give up. Even if it means teaming up with a scary warlock and even scarier vampire.

Blackhart has achieved the impossible and hidden the mages where humans can’t reach. Getting there to rescue them turns out to be easy. Getting out; less so. And Blackhart has the upper hand—and new minions. So how to turn the tables and defeat him once and for all?

Join Phoebe and the gang of House of Magic as they journey to the unknown. Can they save the people they love in time for Christmas?

My cartoon for the books page in this week’s @theguardian.com
Title: Where writers really get their ideas.

A writer, holding a note in his outstretched hand approaches a cart in the park. The front of the cart reads 'Fresh ideas' and a colourful umbrella shades the server who is reaching deep into the body of the cart (much as an ice-cream vendor might) and saying:
"I'm all out of mind-blowing concepts and heart-rending narratives, but I've got an acerbic observation, an unexpected outcome and a couple of amusing notions."

It’s windy and cold today, so putting finishing touches to Season to Be Witched where it’s warm.

This is what I mean when I say, when it comes to political positions, most ppl just run on vibes. 100% feelings-before-facts. Japan is screaming towards a population crash at 1,000 MPH, it's not reversible at this point. But you have political parties agitating to return to hermit kingdom status.

Japan’s far right is on the rise, alarming foreign workers. Nowhere is that anxiety more apparent than in the city of Toyota, where immigrants power the economy while facing political backlash.

Fascinating, informative and terrifying thread about hippos.

I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

This is Manolo. His family invited strangers to spend time with him on his last day. His mom said, "This was such a perfect way to celebrate the life of a dog who truly loved spending time with people and their dogs. Run free and fast forever, Manolo. I will never stop missing you." 14/10 for all

So the moral of the story is do not underestimate the willingness of deranged thugs to set fire to the entire world over something that has no factual basis whatsoever.

IF you use AI thumbnails I WILL NOT WATCH YOUR VIDEO. even just "polished up" thumbnails will make it harder for you content to reach me, because I do not trust that you have anything to add to my experience. extra minus points if you steal somebodies face or appropriate their face or name

Good morning. The night was rainy, but the morning is bright and beautiful.
River and lawn with some yellow leaves on it. River with the sun shining behind the trees. River with mist glistening in the sun. A mug of coffee by the fireplace.

Also, I should add, I had no idea it wasn’t the first book when I requested it. 😀

A famous author with established readership so I don’t know why they needed NetGalley. Maybe an anniversary thing or something.

Having uploaded my own books there, the system allows for a subtitle, which is the only place for a series name and volume. They should make it more obvious. The best I’ve requested and been granted was vol 25 of a mystery series. 😆 Basically readable, but I was lost. 😀
