🍁🍂AN AUTUMN GEM😊🍁

I wish I had

autumn dusk
小言いふ相手のほしや秋の暮
-Kobayashi Issa, 1823.

Half-forgotten for most of the year, Tenju-an (天授庵), like many of Nanzen-ji's small sub-temples, bursts into life during late autumn.

One personally frustrating thing about the big AI push is that it forces people to assess it in a hurry, which makes people careless. It kinda smells like a scam to me if someone’s hurrying you along, cultivating urgency in you, well before you know where they’re taking you.

I wish that Japanese entertainment industry wasnt allergic to money so we could have an actual streaming service in europe too.

For most the choice is between pirating or being forced to use AI-slopfactory a la Crenchyrell.

Straight out-of-camera scene coming back from work tonight.

Rare to see that many fallen leaves; they usually get manically swiped seconds after they touch the ground.

Japan's version of the moon rabbit tale is a perfect example of self-sacrifice. Originating from a Sanskrit tale, it tells of a fox, a monkey, and a rabbit who found an exhausted old man collapsed in the mountains. The monkey gathered fruit and nuts, and the fox brought fish...

i came across the saying "to follow like a Tantony pig" so I get curious and look it up, but Tantony isnt a place, it's a contraction of St Anthony who is the saint of swineherds, so the proverb means to follow someone like a pig following the hog messiah. alas this information will not pay my bills

Itsumade are strange bird-like chimera in #JapaneseFolklore. They have a human face with a pointed beak, a snake's body, sharp claws and huge wings. They appear in the sky at night, flying in circles crying out 'itsumademo' which means 'until when?'

I used to be a lead bookseller at one of the biggest bookshops in the UK. We had a reputation for being able to "break" books, i.e. build hype for books we got behind and make them start selling.

That often involved handselling just 9 or 10 copies over a couple of days.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Of all the temples in Kyōto, Jōjakkō-ji's (常寂光寺) seasonal transformations are some of the most beautiful.

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺
