Marco Rubio & several other U.S. Republicans nominated her. All the supposed outrage over her being awarded the prize is manufactured. It's political theater to cover for their intent to topple Maduro (who is definitely NOT a good guy), crush Cuba & access the Venezuelan market & natural resources.

Machado is not the noble, long-suffering champion of the people the MSM reports her to be. She was selected because she serves the interests of "peace" via free market ideology. Norwegians appointed to the Peace Prize committee adhere to the theory that the free market is the best path to peace.

Chomsky concluded his answer to Steele by saying, "But that's so routine there's not even any point giving examples" (quoted in Steele 2012). As a long-time activist, I think Chomsky is only half right here. Routine, yes; but the problem of agent provocateurs is still not very well-known by many activists and organizers. Given that this lack of awareness increases a movement's vulnerability to
agent provocateurs, I want to share some historical examples of agent provocateur activity around the world, including an in-depth case study from the Black Liberation Movement in the United States.
My hope is that this examination will encourage civil resistance organizers to think more deeply about what can be done to minimize the negative impact of agent provocateurs and agent provoca-teur-like behavior on movements for peace, justice, human rights, and sustainability. I then close the essay by sharing some useful first steps toward achieving this goal.

Filing for Social Security disability benefits is also ableist & for that matter, so is just about every other interaction with U.S. federal or state agencies... applying for Medicaid, unemployment benefits, etc. Hell, even voting in many states is ableist.
