Israel is also holding approximately 10,000 Palestinian hostages.

Please consider all the hostages next time you’re talking about this. Too many only care about the 50 Israelis.

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

Blinkens ceasefire deal was ready over a year ago.
Bibi, Saudis, Qatar and the Ayatollah Complainy decided to stall so they could make room for their beautiful gilded golf resorts placed on bodies of children.
It's a fake religious war. It is a class war as always.

Are the 10,000 Palestinian hostages released?

Watching the Bibi & Don Show treat this like some grand victory, while people returning to northern Gaza dig the rubble for loved ones' remains, is pretty revolting.

After literal decades of jerking our chain, it should be plainly obvious to everyone that the Democratic Party has NO plan to competently address fascism other than to competently plan their stock portfolios around it and send fundraising emails that turn OUR crises into profit-making opportunities.

FWIW ICE is probably the least accessible federal agency I’ve ever covered, and that includes the CIA.
michaeljkramer.bsky.social
Why are there so few (none?) news stories about individual ICE agents themselves? Who they are, what motivates them, any moral dilemmas they face? Why aren’t protesters trying to get some to speak out?

Can you comment on the effect of the absolutely colossal AI bubble that seems to be, almost on its own, propping up the US economy right now, and hiding much of the true picture of the US economy?
tastromo.bsky.social
Interesting to note that while tourism craters in the USA, that the advice is to “book your overseas holiday now” in other words “send more US capital overseas”

It’s kinda amazing how much Trump and MAGA have screwed their own economy here

Definitely noticed that the right wing (esp “free speech” crowd) have a tendency to think that expressing political views or disagreeing is “fascism” because they feel like it undermines their sole right to voice their nonsense unchallenged.

My dad and brother both pull this all the time, it’s sad

I haven't been a teacher for a long time and I was in museums not schools, but I'm wondering what does Luxon mean about "making the curriculum easier to use"? Were there issues with difficulty of use I don't know about? Or does he want a curriculum that doesn't trigger colonial guilt?

Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them.

It's galling to see the Albo government paint the U16 social media ban as a great success when there are expert organisations working with vulnerable children queuing up to demonstrate how it will make young people less safe online.

Children will suffer as a result of the social media ban.

Hopefully enough people wake up to science… I’d really like to still be able to access three meals a day when I’m old and on current predictions it looks more like 1 meal / day.

For my young nephew and niece they’re almost certainly going to face famine.

Horrible but true, sadly

As grim as this news is (along with similar out of nz) here’s hoping Labor just becomes the new right wing party and the LNP fade into total obscurity.

Before it won the 2022 federal election, the Labor Party promised stronger action to curb climate change. Since then, it has approved coal and gas projects that will emit a cumulative 6.5 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide. satpa.pe/lzpWeLc
Labor’s slate for fossil fuel approvals
The Albanese government has already approved 31 fossil fuel projects, and more than that are waiting, even as renewables overtake coal as the top source of electricity.
