Include the link! The fact that bluesky doesn't aggressively suppress links is one of its best features, right up there with the nuclear block. It's great for publishers and also the only way we will ever make progress on the "didn't read past the headline" problem of social media
Love these viral posts that deprive the news org of traffic. So great. www.nbcnews.com/politics/imm...
I appreciate how Bluesky is filled with people who are focused on doing and sharing actionable steps to help in their communities instead of sharing outrage like being mad is the only thing you need to do.

The shutdown is hitting where it hurts—our kitchens. SNAP funds might stop but hunger won’t. It’s time to share food access resources that keep families fed without red tape. Free, low-cost, and local options exist. Let’s start with Feeding America: www.feedingamerica.org

Since Misty Copeland is in the news, I've gotta share this (again). Prince, a grand piano, Misty Copeland, "The Beautiful Ones" and well, it's beautiful.

Chicago area folks: @icirr.bsky.social is holding Know Your Rights trainings all the time. I'm signed up for the virtual Nov 3 session (look for the Google doc in the middle of this page). Lots more resources & info on their site. app.smartsheet.com/b/form/a05b4...
I hear you. If it wasn't for grocery delivery I'd be screwed. It's very difficult for me to leave my home due to my health.

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"
The Colbert Report yeah, but I was thinking more when he moved to CBS where featuring multiple guests doing a PR tour for a new product/book/movie/show/etc is as much if not a majority of the job. But Colbert did keep a fair amount of political commentary in the space he had for it.

Which is no shade to Kimmel. It takes skill to be that kind of talk show host. I'm just saying even as his peak Jon Stewart was never that guy. Colbert and Kimmel can straddle the line of political jokes and helping promote a star's new vehicle. Jon's milieu was always the more editorial side.
Putting aside how Jon threw a tantrum over how he's the only smart person in the room *not* calling our current situation the rise of fascism, what about Jon's personality suggests he's the ideal guy for a job where your primary function is to help shill Disney movies?
During lockdown one of my neighbors put up signs by the shared mailboxes that he'd do grocery runs if people didn't feel safe going to the store themselves.
I know it's the least of worries and sins in all this, but the destruction at the White House is making me learn just how many people can't tell left from right in a picture.
"Don't fucking come for theater kids. They love attention, they know every word to Les Mis, and until tech week starts for the winter talent show they're available to come for your ass."
Yeah, they said whenever they walk by they're like "Are they gonna do it? Are they going to watch? Look, they're doing it!"
Doesn't help that I actually have some face blindness and tend to triangulate off hair. So if you have a bunch of guys effectively wearing the same wig I'm done for.
Every Closer Look is great, but this one gets a *chefs kiss* for the explanation of why you should never fuck with theater kids.
The amount of times I miss a huge reveal because they show someone's face and I cannot for the life of me tell who it is. Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings were particularly hard to tell a lot of the guys apart.

“Don’t have standards or resist anything that flagrantly violates those common-sense standards” is a hell of a hill to die on a decade into an authoritarian takeover
Thank you for the update. *huuuuuuuuug*
