Labour's proposed immigration changes lead to families ripped apart, more people becoming undocumented, and more deportations.

Different framing, but inevitably similar outcomes to Reform/Tory "mass deportations". Xenophobia as policy is bad no matter party making it.

Utterly disgusting, but another sign of the continuing emboldening of hate groups.

Labour should be as quick to act against groups like this, who are actually causing harm and breaking the law, as they declare themselves to be against those opposing genocide.

Do you think they're a cult? I'm struck by their institutional imperviousness to reform - and by the way that every single Home Office Secretary in the last twenty years at least - regardless of party - has so quickly become a shithead of the first order (assuming some weren't already).

This sounds fab. Have had the pleasure of reading Ryan Luong's excellent THE TAM SHOW - it's a blast!

Day 2 of our #TVWriter Mentorship Program table reads was incredible! THE FIVE BURROWS by Pete Sailer, HOW TO SELL SEX by Joanna Dack, and THE TAM SHOW by Ryan Luong were all brought to life by an amazing group of actors who perfectly captured each story’s tone, humour, and heart. #scriptsky

Gripping, atmospheric and tense.

Our proof-of-concept short horror film WITH YOUR LIFE is out now!

This is a slasher about generational trauma by way of domestic violence. The story follows Luisa as she risks everything to escape her husband’s family farm with her baby daughter.

Sounds like I was a bit luckier (and it is luck). It feels like putting together a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces and no picture - I turned up some edges, a corner, and a handy piece with a sharp line on it - but there's still a bunch missing.

Only way on is through and all that.

I hope your hand makes a really good recovery and that you're not in pain.

It's always fascinating to the range of writing processes out there - this is a really useful guide for pitches! Thanks!

Page 1 from NO GHOSTS TONIGHT, my tale of a young woman who embarks on a desperate Channel crossing among strangers in a bid to get home.

A Nicholl finalist, it didn't get me an agent or manager (hint, hint), but it did open various other more productiony doors.

EXT. WINDSWEPT BEACH - DUSK
Waves roll in. They don’t stop.
Wet sand reflects a sullen sky. Foam skitters up the beach.
Beyond, rain-hazed open sea. Grey on grey.

SUPER: France, Plage Dunes de la Slack, November 2023

A sweep of beach rises, meets wind-scarred dunes.
Bleak. Apparently deserted.

SHELTERED GULLY IN THE DUNES

SETAREH (20, looks Iranian, hyped and hyper-vigilant) hunkers
down, near invisible in the long grass and shadows.

Voices MURMUR (O.S.). Setareh listens but the words are
drowned by the waves.

She scans the dunes - where are they coming from? Pulls her
dark hoodie tight, adjusts her backpack. Ready to run.

Grass rustles. Setareh focuses...

There.

A MAN (20, Eritrean) emerges from a nearby gully. Wary, he
scans the sweep of dunes behind him. Looks straight at
Setareh, screened only by long grass in the dusk.

She freezes - holds her breath.

He steps onto the sand, an unwieldy fuel container strapped
to his back. Beckons into the dunes.

Another MAN (20s, Eritrean) emerges, lugging an outboard
motor. Together they SPRINT seaward.

Behind them FOUR MEN (20s-30s, Eritrean, Nigerian), race from
the dunes, a large inflated dinghy slung between them.

Setareh launches herself out of hiding - chases them onto...

THE BEACH

She POUNDS across rock and sand towards the dinghy. A rocky beach at dusk - grey sky, grey sea. Rollers break over boulders.

All right - I've done a comedy writer and producers starter pack for everyone who's into that sort of thing. And YES, I've forgotten you, so remind me that you exist and YES I will put you on it (unless you have slighted me in some unremembered way in the last 20 years). go.bsky.app/AkQCH7U

Yeah - they're not a corvid. They look like one - they look really similar to the magpies I knew in the U.K. And they have beautiful voices - but they're actually a different family - they're a butcher bird.

I've had the opportunity to test this site out, try to break it, and offer some feedback. I can attest it really is a FREE platform where writers can exchange feedback and connect with each other. It's also built by an actual writer -- and a good one!

Super cool thing for the community.

So it's not just grudges they pass on! They're fascinating birds.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
Yep. Esp in thrillers, I feel like a chunk of the job is figuring out how to get your characters out of the inescapable mess you dumped them into.

There's a big overlap with programming tbh.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
In other words, be ready to follow, rather than always trying to lead, especially if you're newly active.

Essential reading - an awesome thread from Phoenix Calida about the importance of infrastructure

One way to help groups working with people under threat (without burdening them with 'how can I help?') is to give them some money if you have it, or the kind of help *they* say they need.
phoenixcalida.bsky.social
My spicy take for this moment-

Too many of you do not understand the concept of infrastructure. How systems are built, how systems are maintained.

You want big bold action but haven't committed to the planning and the boring mundane tasks needed to make said action possible.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
I know right? Door doesn't need to hit their asses on the way out.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
Because she trashed the country and it never recovered. At least the part of it I lived in never did.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
Australian magpies - which aren't actually a corvid but more closely related to butcher birds.

They bring their friends presents, they hold lifelong grudges against their enemies, which they pass on to their children.

So far (fingers crossed), I have an accord with the ones that visit me.
theartofcharts.bsky.social
Also - he's Nick Clegg. The guy who chose the trappings of being 'deputy prime minister' over giving the Tories the bare minimum of confidence and supply (if that) and then making them fight everything else out on its merits (but not getting the cushy office).

Why would anyone listen to him?
