In silence, quietly, clumsy—
borrowing the distant light
from a sleepless window.

I answer the call, slip out.
As you walk down Alameda,
I enter the path in the dark.

On the canal’s liquid film,
notes bounce and flicker.

You know, I would go with you—
all the yesterdays of now,
and the tomorrows of never.

But dawn caresses away dark,
stroking it like a harpsichord.
The rose melts the black.

I put back my soul in its case
until our next haunting trip,
hoping this time it’s you
playing the haunted.

Life spins...a carousel, round and round,
A dance of dreams where illusions abound.
The steed moves on in rhythmic trance,
Blaming the tune or the ride by chance.

Another token in the whirling ring,
The cycle flows, no end, no spring.
A free ride longed for, softly denied,
Hope dissolves as giddiness strides.

Pierced by the pole in a cruel ballet,
The dismount comes when lights decay.
When silence settles and echoes fade,
A heavy hush haunts the empty arcade.
