I originally wrote, "refused to criticize," but then I rethought it. I think they did offer support. Helping the controversy die is supporting his campaign. If they had given him affirmed their endorsement like Bernie did, I think that keeps the controversy in the news and hurts Platner.

There’s a plain desire and belief that there’s a path towards political power through white solidarity and we are seeing so many people reach for this.
Establishment Democrats spent a full year complaining the Left forced them to be “woke.”

But then a left populist, Graham Platner, threatened to win in Maine, so they went right back to trying to cancel someone over old internet posts.
Democrats Cynically Wield “Wokeness” Against Graham Platner

White solidarity as the driving factor around Platner's support explains why he's backed by people on the Left, Bernie and Jacobian, but also by moderate Dems, the PodSaveAmerica guys and many Dem Senators. It's not left vs. center, it's white supremacy is unacceptable vs. white solidarity.
So the human is incentivized to call the cops even before you get into unconscious or conscious bias in the human! Who knows what the training set was and what biases it has?! I'm guessing the system costs a pretty penny and has already CAUSED there to be guns pointed at students on campus! No good!
In this case, the human in the loop was the weakness. The principal has been told the AI alerted. If she does nothing and the kid shoots someone, that's bad for her! If she calls the cops on a kid, there will probably be a press release containing the phrase, "an abundance of caution". (7/??)
So the trade off is a 0.03% to 13% chance of a gun vs. 100% chance of several guns being aimed at students if you call the cops. And, while the facts that no one has seen it brandished, no one is running and screaming add to the likelihood that it is a false alarm. (6/??)
Yes, this is a simplified example, but the base rate - the number of students with guns at school - is probably so low that the basic finding holds. Even if you assume there are 3 guns in the school every day, so 540 student days, the probability the kid actually has a gun if the AI alerts is 13%. 5
This AI that calls a gun a gun 99.9% of the time and correctly identifies other objects as not guns 99% of the time says a kind has a gun. What is the probability that the kid actually has a gun? 0.03%! Less than a third of a percent! This is why a person needs to confirm the finding (4/??)
So what is the probability that if the AI tells you a kid has a gun, that the kid truly has a gun?

Well, probability the test says he has a gun, given that he actually has a gun: 0.999.

Probability than a student will have a gun: 1/360000

Probability that the AI will say a student has a gun? 1%
Let's also say that the AI system is really good at identifying guns. If the object it sees is a gun, it correctly identifies it as a gun 99.9% of the time. Let's say it's also good at not mistaking Doritos bags for guns. If the object is not a gun, it will say that it is not a gun 99% of the time.2
Does this system work? MD requires 180 instructional days. Kenwood has about 2000 students. That's 360000 student days in a year. Let's say in a year, there is one student who brings a gun to school 1 time (I'll come back to this later), so there is 1 student day with a gun in the school. (1/??)

"Liberals and Black people just be making up stuff. How can technology be racist?"
Here's a follow up by the local news, which explains that the principal pushed for a police response even after the alert was canceled by another staff member. This is a terrible system to have in a school and it's already hurt the kids.
AI gun detection system mishap was partly human error, official says
Baltimore County Superintendent Myriam Rogers said the software worked as designed — and the program needs human verification before prompting a police response. "In this case, the program did what it...

Sublime warned us that livin' with Louie-Dog is the only way to stay sane. Louie dies and three days later GWB declares a GWOT. And now we're here.
Who was the only US president to wear a Nazi uniform (that we know of)? That's right: Ronald Reagan. And now you know the rest of the story. But seriously, people who have Nazi tattoos or "Nazi phases" cannot hold public office. It's disqualifying, no matter how they have learned and grown since.
A few years ago, there was a guy seeking national office who had worn a Nazi uniform in public. People made excuses for him, "he's not a Nazi, he served in the US military, it was for a film!" That man won his election and was a total disaster for our nation. Who was that man?
Platner cannot serve in public office. He has to go.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

💯 The goal is threefold:

1) Tie the GOP to corruption + crime, thus reclaiming "law + order."

2) Perhaps deter some violations now.

3) Build popular support for an anti-corruption crusade when Dems regain office, a master frame that Dems can use to legitimize transformative institutional change.
Instead of "This is inappropriate!" Democrats - especially those who might run for president - should say right now "Anyone who participates in this should know: You are committing a crime, and in the next administration you will be prosecuted."

That will change the frame of the story.
Again, it is a full-blown federal felony crime for anyone in the White House or Executive Office of the President to order tax investigations into anyone.

And it's not just a crime to DO it, it's even a federal crime for an employee not to REPORT such an order to the Treasury Inspector General.

This is the guy the Dem establishment is so afraid of? Wish we had many more like him. Great response below from Katelyn that sums up how many of us feel about this video.
