“Protein supplements are wildly popular, but CR’s tests of 23 products found that more than two-thirds of them contain more lead in a single serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day.”

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

U.S. consumers are already shouldering as much as 55% of costs due to Trump’s unprecedented gambit to impose sizable tariffs on imports, according to a new report from Goldman Sachs analysts.
U.S. consumers bearing more than half the cost of tariffs so far, Goldman Sachs says
The findings suggest U.S. consumers will continue to struggle with high prices — something Trump had promised to address in the run-up to his re-election.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Last year, we wrote about survivor Taylor Cadle. When she was 12, she told police she’d been raped. They said she was lying and charged her with false reporting. She then took the extraordinary measure of recording the next act of abuse.

Now, Taylor has legal counsel and filed a lawsuit.

At least you like the Spirits…

(my husband also doesn’t like The Goonies, but he didn’t see it until he was in his late 30s so I give him a pass on this one)

*snort* on the pricing comment.

🤣 You’re like my college roommate / best friend.

I had a 1.5 day midweek work trip last week, was not checking a bag, and have TSA Precheck. My flight was at 11:05am, so I arrived at the airport at 10:15am, breezed through security and was at my gate before boarding started at 10:35am.

A surprising sight in St. Clair County, Michigan: A man waving Fixodent denture cream before the county commissioners at an August meeting.

“I am an unfluoridated child,” he declared, “with a set of uppers and lowers.”

And maybe your flight would be delayed and you’d catch the whole match.

Not a NJ/NY dweller, but have driven in that area quite a bit. Map apps say 16-17 mins at that time from SI Stadium to Newark, so give yourself 30 mins and order your Uber/Taxi in advance. To arrive 1 hr 15 mins before flight, you’d need to leave by 5:15pm. You’d catch a majority of the game.

On this date, Matthew Shephard died 27 years ago. He was beaten, tortured, and left for dead on fence for being gay. Please keep him and his wonderful mother Judy in your thoughts. And let's all work for a world where such horrific things do not happen to anyone. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Regurgitating the match play-by-play adds absolutely no value. Articles about matches are intended to augment the match statistics and play-by-play, provide color and context to otherwise dry summaries of data points.

Seeing so much football media go this way absolutely sucks, but especially when it's the league itself.

If you don't care enough to write about a game in your own league, why should I care enough to watch it, ESPECIALLY when said league is stuck behind a paywall?

As someone whose time freelancing for MLSsoccer was a vital step in my career progression, and someone who generally gleans insight from the observations of others:

This sucks so hard.
MLS is using generative AI to write match recaps. Writers used to get paid freelance rates to do that. Hssssss.
