Doesn’t matter That they don’t read the syllabus. I always started my lecture with a reminder of upcoming quizzes, exams, assignments and holidays and I still had students show up on exam day, apparently unaware it was an exam day.

They aren’t native to the West Coast, they were brought across the country by “settlers.” But they’re firmly established and here to stay.

Thank you for mentioning this. I've been cringing a bit at everyone giving advice on how to grow them.

Please don't. What hasn't been mentioned are their unique soil needs and the fact that a large percentage of those for sale have been poached from the wild.

Yeah, I’ve heard some strange ideas from otherwise intelligent, highly educated people. Admittedly it’s getting harder to find accurate sources of information. I know I’ve fallen for a few at first glance.

🐟 This month we’re celebrating National Seafood Month with a recovery success story–Pacific bluefin tuna is making a comeback! Historically, this iconic species suffered from overfishing but has made a dramatic turnaround thanks to global cooperation among countries around the Pacific.

It's closet cleanout time! I'm selling off all my one-off shirts for just $10 each. These are one-of-a-kind upcycled shirts, vinyls, and test designs. If you see one you like, grab it now--last time they went fast!

Proceeds will help me rebuild from the Eaton Fire.

Damn administration jumping on the latest fad, once again. It’s going to be the next big thing. Just like MOOCs, just like Flipping the Classroom, and probably others that I missed or ignored.

The moral of the story? Don’t fuck with ostriches. 3/2
thundergoose.bsky.social
On the right is an account of a lioness with mostly grown cubs who went after a pair of ostrich with young. The male ostrich took the chicks away and the “teenage“ lions attacked the female. She killed both of them by kicking them and then the mother lioness killed the ostrich hen. 2/2

No Alt Text but a cool story. To summarize on the left is a discussion of lions predating on ostrich. It concludes that lions can take down ostriches when they are alone with their heads down but not groups or single ostrich with their head up. 1/2
