My latest book, a sword-cell-phone novel-in-verse that riffs on "Romeo and Juliet", but Romeo's friends aren't all idiots. Nobody dies, lots of people end up in bed. Harper made Canada the worst climate performer among industrial nations, ranked 58th best by the international Climate Change Performance Index.

Trudeau made Canada an even worse climate arsonist than under Harper, dropping us to an even more dismal 62nd place.

The fundamental disconnect is that the steps required by both science and patient safety are the steps hospital infection control leaders foolishly dismissed in 2020.

They have to choose between killing patients, and admitting a very big mistake.

Turns out their egos are worth more than your life.

"Masks prevent the transmission of respiratory viruses. The science is clear," writes Iris Gorfinkel. "The standards are in place. At what point does the media clue in that the people who said COVID wasn't airborne, the people who said #longCOVID wasn't a big deal to minimize that mistake, and the people who are lying by omission to the public to cover up both 👉are the same people👈?

This is a major corruption story - tell it!

I’m glad the recommendations are unequivocal but vaccine rollouts by provinces are far too late. Many in my community have already fallen ill and nursing home outbreaks are well underway. Folks need Covid shots BEFORE schools start up each fall. #covidIsNotOver #CovidIsAirborne #CovidIsNotSeasonal

For studies about CO2 and disease transmission… plotting a graph that shows continuous readings per day as three lines would be better than using medians. Maximum recorded, minimum recorded and average.

Because a lot of transmission of COVID can happen in a very short time.

Meanwhile, leftwing ideologues continue to insist that nothing was done about covid "because the economy". Err... no. Lots of biases and bullshit were involved, including in David Eby's True Left Wing NDP BC, but it was because the ignorance and idiocy. The economy is getting toasted.

The belief "If people only knew X they would do Y" is false, and its falsity is self-demonstrable: everyone knows people know stuff that does not change their behaviour.

People act on feelings, not knowledge, so a disconnect between knowledge and actions is normal.

It's just perfectly ordinary cognitive dissonance, easily resolved by ignoring what you know. Every person walking around in indoor public places without an N95 on--including the person decrying Carney's dissonance--knows *exactly* what Carney is doing, because they are doing it themselves... /

We have truly not yet figured out how to cope with a person or institution that is "aware" of climate change, "accepts the science", but then decides to continue actively worsening it anyway

We don't even have a word or a phrase for this!

“hypothesizing after results are known,” is a tactic to “fit” a narrative to data.

It’s how he’s going to “make proof” for false health claims.

RFK Jr isn’t a scientist. He doesn’t know how to do science. He HAS profited off health disinformation for decades.

It is not a few months of lockdown or masking that has damaged the health of our children. It is the recurrent exposure to a deadly vascular virus which continues to kill & disable millions.

Covid never went away; we know that the risk of Long Covid is cumulative (5% with each infection). The risk of acquiring it can be dramatically reduced by cleaning the air in indoor spaces; yet there is zero investment into this area, and children continued to be forced back to unsafe classrooms. This is despite the evidence that apart from reducing the risk of respiratory infections, ventilation improves academic performance and attendance.

Where I think Canada could lead the world in is developing laws to protect the environment, workers, artists, and citizens from AI-driven exploitation.

Do I think they're going to do it?

No

But you have to try.
tjradcliffe.bsky.social
Three of my repeated points: 1) Data privacy, access, and deletion laws at least as strong as the EU's, 2) Make it illegal for an AI to imitate or present as a human being and 3) The best way to have an agile, capable, "AI-aware" workforce is to strengthen our social democracy!
