Foreign Fruit by Katie Goh is a maddening read because

1) it's this thoughtful, painstakingly layered and researched piece of art that invites empathy

and

2) it makes me feel so bad at writing. like. reading this book makes me feel like I don't know how to speak English, let alone write it.
