Nah, even if this is a clumsy ‘might even wake the relatively wealthy (& unbothered) up to 🧊.’ As a longtime cubby hole shopper, dive diner, and familiar friend to Canal Street, I can tell you relatively wealthy & tourists hoping for knockoffs is a small part of who’s there. And isn’t who stays.

Not sure what the goal of this framing is, but it’s gross. I’m a lifetime Lower Eastsider and denizen of Canal Street. Which, sure, has some knock off hunters. But is mainly populated by a great variety of NYC immigrants and city employees. The rich visit, the poor stay. And get targeted. Bad take.

Something that strikes me about Platner and similar is how obvious it makes the hunger for different-and-more-progressive Dem candidates, but how we’re still the most thrilled by one who’s a white guy. Lots of good & solid progressives we could run, too bad they’re POC/ lgbtq/ ladies, or some combo.
