in this scenario im thinking its a sfleet academy/vulcan embassy connection that brings them together- admiral kirk as a respected professor (maybe, this is tbd) communicating w/ vulcan envoy spock, who I think in this au is actively being brought up to take over his fathers ambassadorial position
