Some personal news: today is my final day at The Athletic, ending a 6+ year tenure on its staff.

Immensely fortunate to have covered this sport alongside some of the finest writers and editors in the industry. Will keep you posted as I figure out what’s next for my work!

I’m not looking forward to season’s end, when I have to update the website to reflect the end of his tenure as “2025” rather than the dreamier, more open-ended “present”.

Thank you for everything, Kalen, and congrats on your retirement. 🫡

ICYMI, Kalen Ryden (#22) announced today that he will be retiring at the conclusion of the ‘25 season. I have to admit that all season I’ve been considering the possibility that he might retire, but I was still somehow not fully prepared for the reality of the news when it dropped.

I’m very fortunate to have interviewed Valentin Noël (#21) for the book today. Lovely guy who chose his number to reflect a meaningful date. He also spoke about the importance of playing collegiately so he could continue to pursue his education. There really is a story behind every number.

Sergio Rivas (#7 and #11) hit 10,000 career minutes last night. By all accounts, he was pretty close to not even being here this year. I’m really grateful that he and the club were able to come together on a contract so he could hit this milestone in black and yellow.

Our estimates suggest that this goal occurred approximately 63 yards from crossing the goal line.

What a kick!

Bodie succeeded previous #18s Marlon Vargas, Kyle Colonna, Carl Sainté and Philipp Beigl.

The #18 is currently in a four-way tie (!!) for the most issued number (19, 23 and 26 have each been issued five times, as well) #themoreyouknow 💫

Roster update from yesterday:

The club and Bodie Ford (#18) have parted ways. Bodie signed an Academy contract in May and was the fifth player to wear #18.

(Thanks, @albolte.bsky.social for the hellsite screen grab)
