He'd also probably need prompted. He tends to forget touching strangers or acquaintances for any reason other than dire need is an option. Ultimately he could hug a stranger, but unless they were a child it'd be stiff and awkward and might not help much. They'd likely find better comfort elsewhere.

Ken would find it harder - though in his case it's as much cultural as anything. Domans don't casually touch very often. The request would strike him as odd, and he'd be uncomfortable. He'd be happy to sit with them, happy to listen, happy to offer a hot drink and what he hoped would be a kind word.

Ayah is a hugger ordinarily; she would absolutely hug a stranger in distress if she knew they needed it. It never gets easier for her to find the words to console someone in grief: so much seems glib or trite or misplaced. A hug, however, is pretty universal. She'd just hope it helped.

Hi everyone! o/ Would your OC hug someone in distress if they knew that person wanted/needed it? That could be a mourning parent/orphan, grieving spouse, etc but only someone met in passing -- no named figures and no political gains here!

Or would they be unable to, and why?

Ken... Ken is not a big reader. But he'd get on with 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. Not the contradiction it seems: CoMC is a big dumb rollercoaster of a thriller with treasure and prison breaks and vengeance and costume changes and poisonings and lesbian elopements. He'd just take a year to read it.

Ayah would love 'The Princess Bride', both for its romantic plotline of star-crossed lovers and high adventure, and the way it plays with narrative and tropes. There's also something very bardic about the way the tale is told, complete with interjections and asides, which shed find very engaging.
