I'm halfway through ITCH! by @manylittlewords.bsky.social. It's deliciously skin-crawling folk horror and narrated by Gemma Amor.

No spoilers, but the scene where Josie leaves her dad's place due to the unexpected guest? Thank you! I was so worried.

Alligators and crocodiles under a nearly full Harvest Moon at Croctoberfest. Breakfast tacos and binging TV with family. An incredible book haul. October birthday 2025 has been fabulous.

It was a blast talking with student writers at Lauren Tivey's Publishing and Writing class. The speculative fiction and poetry from these @flaglercollege.bsky.social and SJR State students is going to blow us all away.

My brain feels sparkly and settled after some afternoon art time, including playing with watercolors for the first time in a while.
Watercolor sketch of a woman's face with wild eyes and red mouth and long teeth Hand drawing of a round face with two eyes nose and then open mouth, but overlaid is a deer with antlers stretching around to look like eyebrows and its tongue is dripping onto the tongue of the human figure

Horror folks, it's the middle of September, and the Stoker Recommended Reading List is looking extremely small. If you're a member of the HWA, go recommend something you've read that you loved!

Y'all: HIM was incredible. It's visceral and surreal, with haunting visuals. It washes over you, smothers you. See it in the theater, if you can.

Tyriq Withers and the entire cast drew me in, but Marlon Wayans is uncomfortably compelling and terrifying.

THE HONEYS by @ryanlasala.bsky.social is delicious and enthralling. I love Mars as a character, and this exchange was supremely satisfying.

I also love the "summer camp with secrets" vibe that pings my nostalgia for THE GROUNDING OF GROUP SIX by Julian F. Thompson.
Cover of The Honeys by Ryan La Sala, a floral design with bees Text excerpt from the novel:
"I get that things haven't been easy for you," he says. "Before or even now. But are you sure about this? Maybe you got off to a bad start with the boys, but if they got to know you, I think they'd really like you.
Instead, you're trying to join up with Bria and her gang."
*Get to know me? What do you want me to do, set up a slide show about myself and present it to Hunter Village for Embers? The more they know, the less they like me, Wyatt."
Wyatt scratches at a bug bite on his neck.
"No, it's like..." He reaches up to the trees, as if he can pull down an answer. "I don't know, participate in their stuff. Sports and poker night.
Show them you're, like, chill."
"Wyatt, that's not being chill. That's performative heterosexuality."

The 19th Amendment was ratified on this day in 1920, barring voting discrimination based on sex. But for women of color, the right to vote wasn’t fully realized until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

105 years later, we're still fighting for equal ballot access for all.
