A couple years ago I published a novel about fighting fascism in a Steampunk alt-history Roman empire, full of disabled queer characters (on an airship) firesidefiction.com/book/the-clo...

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

Rufo again.
We talked to a former fraud investigator about the role a conservative activist's unsubstantiated report on fraud played in Trump's threat to revoke asylum protections for Somali refugees in Minnesota.

They are patrolling subway stops, filling food bags, cleaning garbage. It's disrupting their lives. They are show horses for this ridiculous, incompetent, authoritarian president. And his Secretary of Defense responds to the shooting by saying "Let's send 500 more to DC for no reason."
Two Guardsmen who shouldn’t even have been deployed to DC in the first place were shot today. Donald’s answer? Knee-jerk and send 500 more. JFC!… 🤬

Billions for this but not a cent for anything that will actually help anyone.
Amazon is set to build a new artificial intelligence data center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 2026, investing $3 billion in the area and an additional $150,000 to fund a new Warren County educational grant, Gov. Tate Reeves announced on Thursday.

They use guns, too.
people used arsenic-based face paint!
i feel like a lot of the disconnect between the ai boosters and the rest of us is about the fact that they do not think the humanities matter, therefore political, sociological, and cultural critiques don’t matter. “people are using this” is not an answer to “this is a detriment to society”

I think a lot of people in the US would be surprised to hear that Hugh Laurie did so much great comedy.

Blackadder the Third is my favorite role for him.

George must have liked "Old Brown Shoe" a lot, too. It's the second song on Live in Japan.
I love the Beatles' deep cuts.

Great songs you don't hear people talk about much, like "Good Morning Good Morning" or "And Your Bird Can Sing" or "Hey Bulldog" or ....
Impossible task, but "Old Brown Shoe" is an under-rated favourite. youtu.be/cG_R5eJAajE?...

Today I will pick Maxwell's Silver Hammer

Because my children are Gen Alpha monsters, they want to know if I've sold 67 copies of Year's Best Canadian F&SF Vol 3 this month--get it? 6-7 * makes flailing juggling motion and despairs * I'm about 20 copies shy. For Black Friday, want to help an indie publisher pull one over on his kids?
