In arbitrary order; beer, cats, philatelic history, broadcasting history, buses, architecture, the Peak District, the Yorkshire coast, cooking, jazz, classical, prog, football, cricket, Tom Lehrer, Flanders & Swann, not doing small talk, fighting against the grim meathook future on multiple fronts.

okay, time for a prompt post to distract us all from the horrors. quote this post with your areas of expertise, interest, hyperfixation and/or obsession and invite your audience to ask you questions about them.

I just fundamentally don't get why anyone would want this. if I had good ideas for movies then I would be making movies already. I'm not going to have a good time requesting movies from the slop factory

Surprised that the Clayton West branch survived Beeching and lasted as long as it did. There's a 15" gauge railway there now.

Sure.

Question 1: was the crushing of the Kronstadt rebellion justified?

Question 2: was the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956 justified?

Question 3: was the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 justified?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you are basically a tankie.

This week: Oi, Immigrants, A-Level English is the gold standard, a key milestone in proving your loyalty and usefulness to His Majesty. Pass it or fuck off.

If you agree that mandatory digital ID cards are a terrible idea, please ask your MP to sign my motion opposing them.

These plans risk turning us into checkpoint Britain. They must be scrapped.

Email your MP my motion: edm.parliament.uk/early-day-mo...

Okay this sounds shit, but most companies are forcing people back to the office for equally spurious reasons and not getting a massive newspaper article about it

Wonder if the Herald staff have to do a few days a week in the office 😁

I've got a very good friend of mine. His vocabulary exceeds the entirety of the current sitting MPs in the House of Commons. He's been living over here north of fifteen years and he spoke and wrote in English long before he moved here.

And yet according to what we've been told THAT'S NOT SUFFICIENT

So, let's say you are not *only* have the temerity to be born in a foreign country to foreign parents, what if - and I know in 2025 when Wes Streeting would like nothing more than to send your lazy arse back to work - you are also NEURODIVERGENT TOO

It *is* a noodle, surely! Didn't Marco Polo introduce them to Italy from China in much the same manner that Walter Raleigh brought potatoes to England from the New World?

Knocking around in my collection I have a CD by Eddie Grundy off of The Archers, and it's much better than it ought to be. It features The Rumour (as in Graham Parker and the) as backing musicians and a duet with Sam Brown on Syd Barrett's Scarecrow.

Peter Gabriel, after leaving Genesis in late 1975, produced a single "You Never Know" for Charlie Drake (UK Charisma), with Sandy Denny on backing vocals and Phil Collins on drums. It was not a chart success.
