Iowa farmers and state government led the way and worked very hard to build soybean trade with China in the 80s. (Current) Pres Xi was involved in all that back then and visited Iowa farms. The whole thing should be a case study in international trade, among other topics.

The shock to the soybean market was so bad in T 1.0 that he wrote checks to every US soybean grower for every bushel they claimed to have grown—no verification necessary. Say, you had a bumper crop? You got a bigger check. No questions asked. At taxpayer expense.

reading a book about china. apparently the government there has sent federal forces into cities, taken shares of major private enterprises, slapped tariffs on industries, and pressured media outlets to fire people they politically disagreed with. didn’t know this.

Good day for people to get up to speed that the vast majority of the commentary class is privileged and much, much more concerned about performing solidarity with the fascists of their class and performing "civility" in order to keep their jobs and please their employers than our rights and safety.
