Ok one doompost for today but this is going to be really really bad. The common person doesn't know about this but like this is literally going to change the face of the planet. I know there's a lot to scream about but like it's kind of hard to overstate how bad this is gonna be

Project Shop My Shelves Q3 Update!
I have still not hit the 1:2 bought to read ratio, but I made it to 1:1 which is progress.
What is it? I am trying to make a concerted effort to read the books I already own. I’ve gotten into the habit of buying new books and mostly reading those while ignoring my shelves or I buy a ton and don’t get to them in a timely manner, which leads to the first problem.
Project Shop My Shelves will be where I document my progress in trying to tackle my TBR pile while minimizing what I add to it. Parts of PSMS Read double the amount of books I buy per month (if I buy 4, read 8+), 2:1 ratio
Prioritize buying marginalized authors. Cis het white authors can wait in terms of preorders and purchases
Be realistic about whether I like an author or what medium I prefer their work when buying future books
Read through the oldest books I own, donate those I don’t jive with
Keep a record of my stats and post quartertly PSMS Stats for Q3
July
Bought 5 ebooks (0 ARCs), 4 physical, 0 audio
Read 9 books, 3 were preexisting
Ratio bought to read: 1:1
August
Bought 7 ebooks (0 ARCs), 2 physical, 0 audio
Read 8 books, 1 was preexisting
Ratio bought to read: 9:8
September
Bought 4 ebooks (0 ARC), 5 physical, 0 audio
Read 8 books, 4 were preexisting
Ratio bought to read: 9:8 reflecting on q3: I got SO CLOSE to a 1:1 ratio for nearly every month this quarter. I would really like to buy less and/or read more, but people keep putting out new books, lol. I am pretty happy that I kept my ratio close to an even number of read versus bought. I will say that I received a lot of books are gifts for my birthday, which don’t count but definitely add to my TBR pile. I’m hoping the same happens in November and December as I usually stop buying books for myself closer to the holidays. Maybe December will be the 1:2 month... finally.

Starting this lovely edition by @rainbowcrate.bsky.social of Name Bearer! (Took this photo before I came down with COVID rest assured I am not spreading the plague)

The cover of The Name Bearrer by Natalia Hernandez. Featuring the mc holding a flower as magical butterflies fly off. A back cover with the summary.
For her entire life, the Name-Bearer's sole purpose has been to receive and deliver the names of the future monarchy from the Flowers of Prophecy. But when the child is finally born and the Name-Bearer is sent to the Flowers, they refuse to name him. Instead they deliver a prophecy; another child was born who is more worthy of the Naming, and if they are found and brought before them it will usher in a reign of peace.

Having failed in her duties the Name-Bearer is considered a traitor to the crown, and must hide among an elite sect of warrior women where she experiences found family, friendship, and love. Her training as a warrior helps prepare her to embark on her quest to find the Unnamed Prince, clear her name, and bring peace to her realm.

A story of magia, warrior women, found family and love - and not accepting who you are told to be, but embracing who you are destined to become. Original cover of The Name Bearer with the mc who is a Mexican Girl surrounded by swirling plants in her lovely floral lace dress. Hardcase with leave foiling and a qoute.

With birth there is always pain. An you are being born anew. It will take some time to find your feet again.

It largely becomes about learning and training to be a warrior. And I especially loved that the definition of warrior was challenged beyond the battlefield. This was such a fun read.

I hope y'all love it to.
whirloglyphics.bsky.social
Lovely and made reading fun and enjoyable. And fortunately this is on sale and I highly reccomend y'all scoop it up before it's gone. It is definitely among my favorite special editions especially the gorgeous hardcase painting.

I loved the growth and friendship that keeps the story afloat when

Fascinating and unique way to explore a world inspired by Central and South America. I loved the way all of the unique languages alongside Spanish were woven in throughout the narrative.

I'm excited to read the second book because I absolutely love an uprising.

And this special edition was so

What was really fun was the queernormative worldbuilding and that trans identity was everywhere. The courtyard politics were intriguing and entertaining. And I loved that there was a constant conversation around large empires within the setting outside of Colonialism by Europe. It wad such a

An adventure. There were cool trials that the MC had to work through and for her living a sheltered palace life was she was very humble, gentle, and kind. I really enjoyed her as a character and I loved how she continually picked new names for herself as her life path changed.
whirloglyphics.bsky.social
I loved the creative worldbuilding, the unique magical system, and the way Indigenous beliefs and folk ways were worked into both everyday life and the worldbuilding, and i loves the characters. This was such a fun read and I really enjoyed getting sucked in to another world and being taken on
whirloglyphics.bsky.social
This was such a fun and adventurous read. For me it was the perfect amount of telling where it counted. And showing. At times I felt most of this book was telling the reader about the setting and establishing the plot for the 2nd book. But it worked very well for this book in particular.
