Little 'walk to work story'.

Yesterday, as I was walking down Jermyn Street to the staff door at work, there was a completely random cucumber, still wrapped, just lying on the pavement.

Someone's dropped it form their shopping, I thought, and went on my way.

Behind me, two VERY well-dressed...

I haven't managed to grab a picture of him yet, but if my next book is shit, blame the cat.

A man told me yesterday that it was important to "take emotion out of the equation“ when analysing the situation in the US, at which point I told him very calmly that "a woman who disagrees with you is not necessarily emotional".

Ladies, it was a breakthrough.

I should have done this years ago.

When someone adds you to a 'techno-pessimist' list...

1) Just because I'm anti-generative AI, does not make me pessimistic about technology in general.

2) Guess who's earned themselves a block?

We're still looking for DC / MD / VA game designers to include in our catalog of locally-designed games. Card games, TTRPGs, board games, journaling games -- if our local retail shops can sell it, we want to promote it!
Designed in the DMV is a local artist's collective based in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We help each other create and promote tabletop games of all types, including role-playing games, board games, card games, and LARPs.

One of the most visible things we do is publish a catalog...

My son went eighteen months without a job.

Sent over two thousand applications.

Most didn't reply (or possibly even exist).

Some turned him down before he'd even pressed the button.

He got ONE interview.

It was utterly soul-destroying.

And we wonder why our youth have a depression problem 🤦‍♀️

I replied to this post, and Reuters have apparently hidden it 😆

Which does rather underline the point.

OpenAI desperate, and they're failing.

(Also, if whoever's running that Reuters account is hiding dissonant replies, they're about to have their work cut out for them...!!)

Oh, SO MUCH THIS. Was an early adopter of all of this, and it was magical. The first days of blogging and social media were full of so much hope. Love and information, passion for our hobbies and interests, openly shared, and friends made all over the world.

Let this bollocks fucking die, please.
I was present for the birth of the web, the explosion of personal sites, and the blogging revolution, and you know what we never had to do? Beg people to use our shit.
