This is a classic dark UX pattern that Microsoft Edge has used ever since Bing Chat (now Copilot) was added. It opened the AI sidepanel if you just hovered the mouse over it.

Edge doesn't (always) do that now, but the button is still purposefully bigger and more colorful than other toolbar buttons.

I'm excited to release Just the Browser! It helps you remove AI features, ads, shopping integrations, and other annoyances from desktop web browsers.

This project includes configuration files, a simple setup script, and guides for manual installation. It supports Chrome, Firefox, and MS Edge.

Finished watching The Knick, it’s excellent and should have got more than two seasons.

My two cents on the LLM coding discourse: you will not be able to tell for certain if a piece of software is has LLM-generated code or not.

If a project is open about doing it, you have your answer. If a project is not disclosing a position on LLMs, you are just trying to prove a negative.

Game news sites have realized you can get a lot of clicks from AI backlash, even if it means taking quotes wildly out of context. Pretty gross!

Eurogamer changed the headline, but the URL still has the original title and there's no editors' note on the article.

Apple gave everyone a U2 album in 2014, and it might have had a long-lasting negative impact on how we all listen to music.
That time Apple sent everyone a U2 album: 'I DONT WANT YOU.'
The release of U2's album Songs of Innocence spawned jokes, backlash, and arguably, a worse music industry.

The US brazenly violated international law every single day of the Gaza genocide—under Biden, and under Trump. The two major parties don’t represent half of the US each, only different factions of the ruling class, and while they have some disagreements, there’s always bipartisan support for empire.

No, Microsoft Office didn't just get renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot." The name change is just for the hub apps and website portal, and it actually happened over a year ago.

I reached out to the author of this viral Reddit post thinking there might be a story in it. He sent me an employee badge that Gemini flagged as being AI-generated and supporting documents that I suspect were also generated by AI. Be careful out there folks!

Don't overthink the Trump admin's reasoning here. They don't have a grand scheme. They are willing to upend the international order because they think everyone else will be too scared to fuck with them. And whatever terrorist attacks this inspires against us will just help them electorally.
