The Nightmare (1982) for Atari 8-bit PCs by Liberty Software turned a player's dream into a terrifying castle, trapping them! It attempted a blend of adventure and light RPG elements, and if eight real hours passed and you still couldn't escape, the game would "declare you dead". (a sleepy thread)

yeah, it looks like no movie before or since because they used crazy experimental techniques all over the place. it's all so bespoke. the sequels sand all that off, so you're just starting over with a little of the iconography and the basic premise...which is not a very good premise.
