There was the ground rushing up to meet him at 30 feet per second per second, but he would, he thought, deal with that problem when he got to it.

Must-watch piece from @karenhao.bsky.social about the mental health risks of chatbots --- especially as Altman is going around having claimed to have "mitigated" them.

Van Til: "It will readily be inferred what the Christian means by antinomies"

Me: Cornelius, at this point, I couldn't readily infer what you mean by saying grass is green

My kids have now read two (2) speculative fiction novels, and they are hilariously judgmental of tech bros. "Did they READ Fahrenheit 451?! They obviously didn't UNDERSTAND it!"
a raccoon is praying with its hands folded and the words `` good , good '' written on the bottom .
Alt: A scheming raccoon taps its fingers together and says, "good, good"

No, no, no. You're overthinking this.

Ya take da white bread. Ya butter it both sides. Kraft slice in the middle, sizzle sizzle til brown. Ya use da spatula to cut it inta sailboats. Then ya dip it in Campbell's condensed tomato soup made with 2% milk.

(The book is also great, obvs, just longer)

Oh! Another way to get your toes wet would be to watch the Going Postal mini movie series thing, which is reliably on YouTube and stands alone well imo

It's only one letter and two keys away from "bow", which would make sense

If you put it in the pan, how do you get the butter on the inside sides of the bread? 🤔

I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually.

The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

The Truth is a nice semi-standalone introduction to the officially adult books. Half journalism satire, half mystery story, set nicely in the middle of the series where the world is all fleshed out.

Discworld.

The Tiffany Aching books (starting with The Wee Free Men) are set in Discworld but stand alone easily. They're allegedly for young people but they don't read that way. Great on audiobook if ye dinnae want tae read dialect.

This just proves octogenarians are liars because don't pretend you were wearing real pants in 2020-2021.

(I do HAVE to brush my teeth before a Zoom, though. Doesn't matter that it makes no sense.)

B2 might be the A-level standard for a UK student studying a language *other* than English, perhaps? Do you do A levels in French and so on? That would make far more sense to me.
wordyanchorite.bsky.social
But CEFR is primarily tracking language acquisition, whereas I would assume that A level English is doing a lot more?

It sounds like saying that being able to do 100 math facts a minute is the same as calculus-level math. Yes, a calculus student can do sums fast, but there's more to it than that.
wordyanchorite.bsky.social
I mean the article says "B2" but how that equals "A level" is a mystery to me, a non-Briton
wordyanchorite.bsky.social
The BBC reporting says that what they actually mean is B2, as opposed to the current B1 requirement.

How B2 is equivalent to A level is left as an exercise for the reader. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I was six
and on the farm

they handed me
a chicken to hold

a soft warm ball
against my belly

my arms full
of its wings

I could hardly breathe
for its breathing

I dared not move
for its small moving

We were fragile
together alive

on the farm
and I was six
