Pinned thread for my attempts at "EnergySky protection class" - I'll be going through various protection topics and relay types as I think of them, for anyone who's interested in knowing about one of the grid's lesser-discussed features. Hope it helps!

Thanks I came here to post this and you saved me finding it

Oh man I hadn't even thought of that, you could be right

I try not to be too harsh on journalists covering the grid but....

Sigh
They called a surge arrester a surge protector. Like the one you have in your house. Sigh

Unless, of course, it involves brutalizing protestors, etc

I really hope this works, I would love to see flow batteries finally get some momentum

I would ordinarily assume that, and that she meant "achieve freedom" or something, but man the kind of shit I've been seeing out of the right wing lately makes me unsure

I haven't seen someone get things this wrong in both possible ways since the 411L relay got popular

"public utility" in practice has meant that it's a regulated monopoly, I'm not a full expert on what that means in every state but it means certain things with respect to the utility's duty to serve customers, etc. Definitely a completely separate thing from public ownership

Shit, was the fake photograph thing this year? I have no concept of time anymore

Real "say what you will about MTG at least she has an ethos" moment here I guess

I think the flattening of access led to a flattening of perceived authority. Every book, regardless of quality, is equally available online. At a university library you're probably not finding fringe pseudoscience, online it's even more available - fake science is never pay walled

"Great news, Mein Fuhrer, our new aircraft surpasses anything the Allies can produce!"
"Excellent, how many of them did you make this month?"
"About... Twenty"
"And how many planes did the Americans make?"
"Ah... Several thousand"

There's a particular misconception that infects many, even those who don't love Nazi Germany, which says sophistication and power is always more important than reliability, ease of construction, and ease of repair. These people lose wars and build terrible products

Oh yes the ME-262 and the Tiger and the V-2 weren't AT ALL overly complex boondoggles that in the end siphoned huge amounts of resources for little impact, mostly due to being absurdly complicated and expensive to produce, fuel, and maintain. Not even getting into operational issues

I'm kind of amazed THREE of us posted this within the span of two minutes, I feel such a sense of unity

The year is 2025. There are three social networks remaining. They are run by Dweeb Lowtax, Tweaker Lowtax, and Girlboss Lowtax. You have to pick at least one.

Also don't forget, if they DO make a real AI, the intent is for it to be a digital slave
