Pinned thread for my attempts at "EnergySky protection class" - I'll be going through various protection topics and relay types as I think of them, for anyone who's interested in knowing about one of the grid's lesser-discussed features. Hope it helps!

This is a huge part of why so many people think we're in the middle of a widespread "anti-woke backlash": Small movements opposed to social progress are collected into trend stories by conservative media. Far larger movements that want more diversity are ignored or cast as threats.
"Woke is ruining D&D". Meanwhile Dimension 20, one of the wokest real play shows around, just sold out Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl for live shows and brings armies of new players to RPGs.

The people who make the plagiarism machine are deliberately reinforcing this conflation. It helps them if these actual good use cases are tied to their vapid product, for exactly this sorry of reason
part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

it’s vitally important for the future of this country that this wildly unpopular administration is tied directly to its enablers in congress and the courts and used to discredit the entire conservative movement

This is so deeply at odds with the vision and history of America. Take pretty much any ethnic or racial group that are part of the American mosaic America today - they have all faced the same accusation. The moment these accusations are turned into policy are some of the most shameful in US history
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

It’s so cool to have hitched your wagon 20 years ago to an industry that was booming beyond anyone’s expectations and have it turn out to be stripmined and utterly hollowed out by Shareholder Value, and every other industry you could slot into has been, surprise, hollowed out by Shareholder Value

Well this explains the bad vibe I was getting from the Daily podcast today
The story told here--one where anecdata suggests agency and autonomy have run amok and nameless activists are to blame--certainly rhymes with the NYT's disastrous panic about trans kids. Then you realize it's literally being written by the same author.
Autism rates have increased in recent decades, but the reasons are more complicated than what Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has presented. Hear more on today's episode of "The Daily." nyti.ms/480eqtm

I realized that while the actual design of robots was what I wanted to do, all the available jobs were just for work cell coding which I... Do not enjoy. I'd interviewed with a power company on a whim and was offered a tech job, so I took that instead of the manufacturing offer

Honestly this is incredible, I see these kinds of issues in substations all the time, it's almost inevitable because humans have to do the wiring, but to see that one breaker could take that entire ship down this way and lead to all this.... www.cnn.com/2025/11/18/u...
A misplaced wire label caused a power outage on a massive container ship, sending it crashing into a bridge, the NTSB finds | CNN
A small label installed on a wire when a giant cargo ship was built may have triggered a chain of events nearly a decade later causing the ship to slam into a bridge and collapse into the water.

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

And we all know who has the louder megaphone.

Secondarily, I think a lot of climate folks think "clean energy is cheap energy, so rile people up about affordability and climate progress will follow." Which just... isn't true. Electricity costs are about poles and wires, not coal/gas vs. wind/solar.

I think you can extrapolate this outside coding. I saw a presentation a little while ago that went "and the model was able to identify CT saturation!" As if that's not something literally any competent protection engineer can observe at a glance and with a far lower error rate
I have a theory that one big reason llms get so much hype is that due to financialization the people in charge of tech companies are finance grifters who have never once, ever, used sed or awk or grep and would be totally unable to describe how they work.

This is fucking awful, obviously rescinding the offer is the worse part, but if you have any influence where you work, this culture of endless interviews needs to stop. HR tried to change our process from 2 to 8 interviews and thank God Engineering was able to successfully mutiny
3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.
