Since fault currents can be so high, this means anyone in the station could be at risk if the ground grid isn't sufficient during a fault - so like anything else, these have fault current ratings. And when the grid is rapidly changing, this is super easy to overlook - it's also pretty expensive 11/x

Step potential is this cool and incredibly lethal phenomenon you get when a high voltage conductor is laying on an imperfect conductor like the earth - the voltage doesn't go straight to ground, it produces a field that gradually tapers off as you get further away from the conductor 8/x

and adding new lines in reduces system impedance - it makes the grid "smaller", electrically, and that too can increase fault currents. Over a certain level and your breakers don't work, but that's just the easiest thing to analyze. You also have to worry about your conductors, buswork, etc 4/x
