Pinned thread for my attempts at "EnergySky protection class" - I'll be going through various protection topics and relay types as I think of them, for anyone who's interested in knowing about one of the grid's lesser-discussed features. Hope it helps!

There is maybe one politician I trust less on these matters than Chuck
Senate Democrats are meeting behind closed doors to discuss the emerging deal. “Stay tuned,” Schumer tells us with a grin.

hey guys isn't it weird how they're all saying this at the same time? ignore the fact that this is now happening with Tyler Cowen, an economist who sits at the center of a sprawling system of think tanks and policy "influencers" who have been laundered into DC with both Koch and SV VC money

Almost impossible to overstate how damaging it is to successfully excise from your life everyone capable of telling you "no"
this is happening across the board. it's why products suck. it's why musk and bezos and all of them are insane. it's why zuckerberg blew a fortune on miis that went nowhere. no one is around to say you're an idiot and shut your mouth before someone else hears you

This greeted us just a few miles from the Austin airport when we rolled in last night. Someone around here has been hard at work to welcome Elon's dork brigade as they arrive for the Tesla AGM 💀 #teslatakedown #MuskMustFall

So I think a lot of people remember the blackout of 2003 but I wonder how many are aware of what happened on June 28th, 1998. Because that might actually be an equally important date for understanding Why Is the Power Grid Like This #energysky

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

people have completely memory holed this which is a shame because I don't know that I've seen anything like it before or since. Natalie Maines, performing in London, said she was ashamed that George W. Bush was from Texas, and in response she and her bandmates had their lives destroyed
In my second of two opinion writing seminars for MPP students today, I was asked about getting canceled in the future over writing today. I immediately responded with my deeply held belief that only The Chicks ever have been canceled. 3 of the 65 people laughed; everyone else was very confused.

Brownout: low voltage, generally not intentional, protection systems will generally not allow you to remain in this condition
Rolling blackout: intentionally outaging portions of the system in sequence to prevent catastrophic undersupply

What the hell is a rolling brownout???

On DHS’s unauthorized use of Norman Rockwell’s paintings across social media, an op-ed from our family today in @usatoday.com www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...
We're Norman Rockwell's family. Trump's DHS has shamefully misused his work. | Opinion
As Norman Rockwell's family, we know he'd be devastated to see the Department of Homeland Security's unauthorized misuse of his work.

I don't think I've ever said this before but it sounds to me like every staff member of this school needs to be fired and the doors closed
Evidently there was an Auschwitz-themed float in a Halloween parade in Pennsylvania.

The float was for a Catholic school, and to their credit the church immediately disavowed it.

Thing is, I don’t think high school kids did this entirely on their own. I’m guessing parents had to be involved.

Manufacturing factory construction investment DOUBLED from 2021-2024. The IRA made clean energy cheaper to make, cheaper to use, and cheaper to build in America. Much of it now rolled back, energy will be more expensive for everyone for the next 10 years. It’s a crisis.

Ahhh, I've seen this film before. Josh Hawley puts out an op-ed staking out a position in The New York Times, then he folds and falls in line with the rest of the GOP. Remember when he did this with Medicaid?

Trump: AOC is low IQ. If you give her an IQ test, have her pass like the exams that I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed. Those are very hard…

Good thread, if you're talking about the grid in terms of econ 101 you have already screwed up (mostly because econ 101 is propaganda meant to give kids a "neglect air resistance" view of the economy but specifically for infrastructure)
It's been a while since I've done a non-political nerd thread. And I wish I could do them more often! So let's do a palette cleanse to talk about this article from WaPo that is technically true, but deeply misinformative about US electric markets. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...
There’s a reason electricity prices are rising. And it’s not data centers.
It’s not data centers or AI, it’s something else.
