the irony is that even though trump secured a plurality of the popular vote, the immediate capitulation came from the elites; the public had a much keener sense of what time it was right from the beginning
Yeah I do think the various attempts to will elite capitulation into being were briefly a successful bit of self-fulfilling prophesying but for various reasons are failing now - huge protests, university's rejecting the compact, the press refusing to go along with Hegseth's new pentagon policy, etc.
Remember back in January when all these sage politics-knowers were writing about how there had been a vibe shift and now the resistance was over?

lol. lmao.
after yoon suk-yeol’s failed coup attempt in south korea, there were continuous mass protests, smaller on the weekdays and larger on the weekends, until Yoon was arrested. it worked!
notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important
glad to see the antifascist popular front is finally reclaiming the noble yet maligned frog

INLAND EMPIRE - The encroaching doom is golden red. It is inside you, but also outside, on the horizon, by the water's edge. Innermost but yet to happen -- things make sense from that angle...

INLAND EMPIRE - You're *Tequila Sunset*. You have been Tequila Sunset for a long time now.

Given No Kings Day tomorrow and our new favorite protagonists in Portland, I realized it was the perfect time for a thread of Bay Area ceramic Funk artist David Gilhooly's adorable frogs—some but not all of which are food-related. First up, Untitled (Frog Food Sculpture), 1973

we're entering what historians call The Weekend Zone
doesn’t matter how much parkour it can do there’s no way a humanoid robot is a more capable killing machine than a quadcopter with a grenade. does a robot army really need to be a group of warfighters? do they need have truck nuts too?
worth considering is that it was all filmed in 2024, well before the election. the imagery of protest, state violence etc throughout the movie is the imagery of 2014-2021, and it actually totally fails to anticipate 2025. i think that’s why it lands so weirdly
