I do love a crumble. And at this time of year, there's nothing better than a homely apple crumble, laced with cinnamon or nutmeg or in this recipe, marsala wine. Can't wait to try this one from @nigella.bsky.social! 🍎👇

What an honor it was to interview @oliahercules.bsky.social and @felicityspector.bsky.social as part of the @burylitfest.bsky.social.

They are magnificent, talented women and you should buy their books.

A black and white phone of the three of us on stage at the town Unitarian meeting place. Olia and I are applauding Felicity who has just read an extract from her book.

This attack was done to divide, and the only way to overcome bitterness is for communities to come together, to talk, learn and share, and to embrace our common humanity. That's what makes us strong. My thoughts go to the victims, and their grieving families. May their memory be a blessing.🕯️/5

At the same time, I hold onto hope. Hope on hearing how non-Jewish passers-by so bravely tried to stop the attacker at the door. Hope on hearing the outpouring of support & concern from all faiths and communities, including kind messages I've received too. Hope that love can always conquer hate. /4

I grew up in North Manchester's Jewish community. It is supportive and tight-knit, a neighbourhood that nurtured me and gave me my childhood. This horrendous attack has sent shockwaves through its core, through my core. A collective trauma with echoes of those of generations past. /3

Heaton Park synagogue is just down the road from my family synagogue. I attended a service there just the other month, as my dad and I recited mourning prayers for mum; the congregation were incredibly welcoming. /2

When I first heard news of the Manchester synagogue attack, my immediate fear was for my dad, aunt and uncle. Once I heard they were safe, and my initial relief subsided, then the true shock and heartbreak set in. /1

Yes, I think it went down well! 🙏

It really is wonderful. Also keeps for days too, and delicious for a midweek lunch. I often throw on some feta.

Thank you so much, Anna. That's really kind. 🙏 X

Had my in-laws over and made a double header of wonderful Sami Tamimi dishes - braised eggs with lamb, tahini and sumac (recipe with Ottolenghi in their Jerusalem cookbook) and musaqa'a (with Tara Wigley in Falastin). Two of my favourite all-time recipes! 🍳

My pleasure, Nic! I love ginger and pear combo.

When my parents first moved into their home, they planted an apple tree in the back garden. Decades later, it's still bearing fruit. Perfect for Rosh Hashanah honey-dipping. And for homemade apple crumble too! 🍎

These sound pear-fect!..🍐👇

There's a recipe for spiced pear and stem ginger cookies in my latest @suffolknews.bsky.social food column. If you're waiting for hard pears to ripen, use them to make these!

First Rosh Hashanah without mum was always going to be a tough one. There are echoes of her everywhere, as well as the spaces where I feel her loss so acutely. But also thankful we could be in Manchester with dad, my sister and family, bringing in new year together. And dad made his honey cake too.
