Prior to 08 crash we saw this exact pattern with over selling of mortgages with low to no down-payment and huge monthlies ending up insolvent. This isn't as bad but it's going to hurt middle and lower class worse. We already can't afford houses if we also can't get cars we can't work

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

I don’t think the reported numbers are right. I agree that some people are probably ordering online, but the empty stores can’t be lying. I’ve gone to Walmart on a Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. any given day, and it would be more busy.

I don’t think the reported numbers are right. I agree that some people are probably ordering online, but the empty stores can’t be lying. I’ve gone to Walmart on a Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. any given day, and it would be more busy.
