Another reason to mask at protests, aside from COVID safety and protection from doxxing, is that a lot of responsible documenters don't want to publish protesters' faces (esp without their consent) right now. Your face being in a shot may prevent people from sharing a worthwhile image publicly.

which is to say in 2016, 2020, lots of privileged people had their first violent encounters with the police and some of them are the people leading migra watch or mutual aid or dearrests today. everyday someone is radicalized and we do a great job giving them a place to go! sincerely!

was talking to my therapist about how the first time i was physically harmed by police really rocked my world (even though i grew up interacting w police as enemy bc of my home life). no matter how much you KNOW cops are bad, the protection of whiteness keeps you from feeling it till it happens.
