Any awful leader needs his enablers and the majority of the PLP have been on board with Starmer's unethical, unpopular policies. The Labour Party's (in many ways unfortunately) dead. I feel truly sorry for those decent socialists still left due to decades of loyalty. There is no hope! Go Green asap!

There is a stinking stench coming off here which suggests that the corruption around Mandelosn was very deep, and that Starmer should have known - and indeed, must have done if the security services were doing even a small part of their jobs

The one thing progressives should take from this is that you don't aim your message at the third of people firmly in the reactionary camp or those in the middle. You build the momentum of the progressive third- you build a 'wave of influence' to win- not dilute by appeasing currently 'don't knows'!

The UK's real GDP per head increased by approx 83.8% 1980 to 2020 in real terms! Where has the money gone? Education is a public good & the rich benefit most, either directly or thro the work of the educated they employ. Immediate interim measure: interest (esp over BoE base) must be abolished now!

It’s absolutely NOT fair. This outrageous scandal must end

He has, and is now enabling and abetting a genocide
He has attacked the poorest in our society
He's a Zionist

By the time Starmer is replaced this summer, we'll have had two wasted years, in which a country crying out for transformation instead got more of the same, or even worse where environmental legislation is concerned, and a high possibility of Farage running the next government.
Thanks Keir.

Mandelson’s malign influence runs right through the heart of this Government.

Not least in the govt’s NHS data deal with Palantir – a spy-tech firm co-founded by a man who thinks the NHS should be ‘ripped up.’

I've written to Wes Streeting urging him to ditch this dangerous deal.

I know you've heard that a federal judge ordered the release of 5 year old Liam Conejo Arias and his father, and that they're now home.

But did you look at the judge's order?

It's less than 2.5 pages and well worth a minute. "Jesus wept."

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

Absolutely, and Dems need to show they can be the party of working people not the billionaires and clear out anyone at the top who still defends oligarchs against the people. The world needs this, it's the only way to achieve a stable US partner for global human rights.
The Epstein case reflects systemic issues within the American elite. Despite clear evidence, the perpetrators will probably never be charged. They engage in exploitative practices without consequence. The American oligarchy has amassed its wealth through parasitism

If dictators can get at least a third of people on side they can use Putin's 'big lie' strategy. The further from the evidential truth the more their follows have to invest in their blind faith in the leader/party/movement. Then, to accept the truth would be to destroy their very identity.
January 25, 2026 at 5:29 PM
They clearly need to report the lies the US govt puts out- it's important how brazen & Orwellian those lies are- but as you state, journalism must be about finding & clearly reporting truth. If not, it's just reproducing press statements; facilitating & reinforcing misinformation (as with Brexit!)
