A research focus has been identified! 🔍 After diving deep into all that we know about hedges, we have decided to study root systems inside Cornish hedges, how they are distributed, and how they contribute to global carbon sequestration 🌳 but why roots? 🧐 Stay tuned!

Last December, I got a chance to watch this beautiful film about Kerdroya - a labyrinth that celebrates the 4,000 year history of Cornish hedges. Kerdroya is built as a blend of varied Cornish hedge styles that you will find across Cornwall!

Hedges are home to wildflowers, woodland trees, lichen, mosses, mushrooms, insects, birds, mammals, and much more! They foster a complex little ecosystem along the borders of land that is otherwise heavily managed for farming and construction.

I had the absolute pleasure to learn the 4000 year old practice of Cornish hedge building with the Cornwall Rural Education and Skills Trust CIO (CREST)! Rows of stone packed in with soil, these structures can last for hundreds of years...
