I have searched everywhere. Does anyone know what happened to Kahoot's Array Lab? It was the best and now it doesn't seem to be anywhere in Kahoot or on Dragonbox. @berkeleyeverett.bsky.social #iTeachMath
So I did a thing...Kudos to anyone who does podcasts regularly. I am always learning and growing so it feels vulnerable to have recorded my thoughts and feelings on this topic. Hope you enjoy it!
The @debatemath.bsky.social - Episode 39 - "Should We Teach Curriculum With Fidelity?" is out!

This is the clearest, most relatable visual of explore, refine, apply. I'm going to start using this with teachers.

Also, half a sucker? No need to ask. IYKYK 😂
@joelbezaire.bsky.social Just discovering your Sports Analytics collection in Desmos. Digging in now but since I'm not super sporty, 1. Are these activities still relevant?
2. Do they need to be done in order or could students pick what interests them?

Thanks to @joausten.bsky.social for the idea in his #MathsConf37 session.

I've got a few more features I'd like to add to this, but I'm way too tired after the weekend!
Great context. Exploring usage and how it accelerates battery use would be interesting to compare too. Which apps use more? At what rate? What does it look like on a graph? Love it!
It's the outside work hours that's the key. Otherwise teachers will feel obligated and admin might expect prompt responses to things at all hours.
There are so many comments made about teachers and schools from people who think they are like the private sector. So frustrating.
They must have eggs. 😜
Can't wait to start watching them. The most misunderstood SMP is modeling. Because we use the word model to mean different things it gets a little blurry. And the plethora of posters online that have it wrong do not help.
I love this. 🥰 So much

The future is unwritten.

You get to help shape it.

So what do you want it to look like?

Move in that direction.

Welcome friends to join you along the way. Even if they’re “late”. Even if you don’t agree on everything. If you can agree on a vision of the future together, they’re your people.

This is a great example of subtraction as difference! ❤️ It is an overlooked skill as we work towards non counting strategies. Most middle schoolers solve subtraction with addition or take away thinking. Then we get to slope in 8th grade and it all breaks down.
When you say "justify" do you mean explaining how they got to the wrong answer as if they thought it were correct, like a common mistake and what was the person thinking. Or that they have to explain why it's wrong. I love both ideas. Curious what you have done.
And say it with confidence so they have to really think through the mathematical reasoning of their work. 😁
I love Cuisinaire rods! They are great for so many things.
From a MS perspective I would say that understanding the number relationships is more important than being able to get an answer to a computation (because they will forget the things they don't actually understand)
Q3: What’s one thing you wish more people understood about elementary math teaching? #ElemMathChat
I would add n-tiles to that list too. You will know what I mean but others won't. Once I understood how to use them they are amazing at building multiplicative (and division) reasoning.
I did not like this one. Took a lot of hints because I could not figure out the theme.
Whenever I feel like things are crazy (at least once a day 😜) I tell myself "people tell me I will miss this"
Appreciative that the Math Institute of WI will be sponsoring 2 showings of this movie at #WisMath25. It feels extremely relevant today. I wonder how much more urgent it will feel in May?
