Lincoln Square Road Closure and Accompanying Comments From The Local Facebook Page (April 2025)
Picture of kids and adults gathering on Lincoln Square, playing jump rope. Text overlay saying "I will never understand the appeal of playing in a street" Picture of Chicagoans of all ages lounging on Lincoln square, enjoying a beautiful spring day. The sun is out and there is chalk art covering the ground. In the foreground a man in sunglasses sits on a yellow bench. Text from a local facebook group reads "It's really unfortunate that they feel the need to create this kind of chaos for the community, our square, and the small businesses trying to thrive here, this feels like a targeted effort."
a man blows bubbles for a group of children playing in Lincoln Square, the kids are jumping and pointing at the bubbles. many adults are circled around watching. A quote from the Lincoln Square facebook page reads "FORGET ABOUT IT. Ban kids from playing in the street." A wide shot of Lincoln Square. People are congregating in the road, lined up to patronize local businesses, or sitting on the curb watching neighbors stroll by. A truncated facebook comment states "how dare you... People like you in this community absolutely disgust me."

2026 Illinois Attorney General election is in 13 months. There are currently no declared challengers to Raoul in the dem primary.

Raoul:
“If you are exercising your 1st Amendment rights ... you have a responsibility to do so peacefully and lawfully. Lawful, peaceful protest does not involve the destruction of property, nor does it involve obstructing federal, state or local law enforcement, or impeding traffic. (2/2)

Wells to Ping Tom through the 78 is a (semi) accessible bike route right now. Worried the plaque is going to be multiple mayors old by the time the road actually opens.

Weren’t the old parking mandates a big inhibitor on coach houses before? Feels like that hurdle got fixed and immediately replaced with a new one for of much of the city.

Was around 10-deep in a nice line of bikes and scooters squeezing past standstill car traffic on Kingsbury today. Would be nice to have any bike infra whatsoever over here to meet the demand!

after 65 months, CTA rail operations are back to full pre-pandemic staffing levels!
As of August 2025, CTA rail operations have returned to 2019, pre-covid staffing levels.

We should add the Cool Building on top of every 1st-floor retail spot along Broadway
Sun hits a mid rise residential building on Broadway. Vendor tents sit below in the street.

Posted speed limits in Chicago having almost no correlation to prevailing average speeds feels so corrosive to driving behavior.

Unenforced 55MPH limits on the interstates built for and treated like 75MPH roads is bad.

30MPH is an insane default speed for tight residential one-ways.

Interesting.
‘21 - ‘22 would be right around when the Lightfoot’s ARO requirement bump went into affect right?
Can’t speak for the rest of the metro…
First, Chicago — where it’s already incredibly tough to secure an apartment — tops the list with the largest drop in new construction, falling by a staggering 60.4% to 3,756 units compared to 2024. Many new apartments on track to open across the metro were permitted in 2021–2022 with far fewer projects breaking ground in 2023-2024. At the same time, local developers are navigating a mix of high labor and material costs, as well as rising insurance premiums — seriously dampening new construction.

At a glance it looks like Riverside CA does.
Chicago’s inclusionary requirements haven’t changed in a few years so I wouldn’t necessarily peg it as a key factor in a 2025 v 2024 change. Housing delivery is lumpy, especially MFH. I’d like to see a line graph. Do you have a link to the source data?

Yeah but none of those are specific to Chicago

We banned cars

Should be pretty easy to map this with the publicly available data. Would be interested in scooter vs bike geography too.
If it wasn’t so nice outside I would be all over this tomorrow

CTA has upped service on O'Hare branch more than any other line over the last two years and it has really shown up in ridership. UP-NW has seen solid growth relative to other Metra lines too.
