50. Silent Hill f
I really wanted to like this. A visual/audio delight that's plagued by game design choices too baffling to ignore, on top of there being too many mediocre combat segments with the same handful of repeated enemy types. Getting to NG++ to "finish" the story felt like a waste of time.

I don't fucking WANT to play it my way I want a professional game designer to come up with a fun way for me to play and then I'll do that.

yep. if you don't have enough working games critics (regardless of medium -- podcasting, writing, whatever) then there aren't enough people to play a high enough volume of games for anything approaching true curation. obviously you can never have perfect curation, it's impossible. but it's worse now
Even as someone who listens to gaming podcasts, it feels like so many titles this year I’ve heard nothing about—even those I expected to get a passing mention at minimum. Weird is the right word to me too.
Its scary how that style/genre of game feels like one slippery slope away from just being all RETURN trad value nonsense so far removed from how it started. Really can't let your guard down anywhere...

still thinking about this article today. so many societal ills are caused by people white-washing what actually happens. it's awful to see games do it too.

can't wait for cozy domestic violence simulator or cozy kkk simulator
a wholesome plane has hit the second cozy tower

"Physic" ive really gotta stop trying to write posts in the dead of night
Silent Hill f is two halves: its a really solid physic horror story centered on trauma and emotional abuse that does a lot of things I greatly enjoy in survival horror. Its also a really mediocre action game with like 4 enemy types, way too many forced combat rooms and poorly though out subsystems.
I dont know why they decided on the action-centric elements. All they've done so far is rob the game of any real tension, undermine the story at several points and just plain bore me when they go on for way too long.

I was really excited when they announced the Silent Hill collection way back when because I'd finally get to play the song from the game

Shame about how that collection went about 🫠
Yessss Ive been trying to find this again for ages but kept drawing a blank on its name, the game's name or which DDR it was in.
Is it bad that this is still my only exposure to SH3...

There was one other fantasy game whose main theme got used as a ddr song that never got released stateside thats always been my white konami whale too

please watch movies and read books and play games and look at art, please view it with your own eyes through a lens you made yourself and not just through video essayists and ending explained videos please im begging you
The way @schalaasha.bsky.social rips the controller off my hands anytime a fox mask cutscene plays in Silent Hill f so she can press the screenshot button as many times as she can

49. Ghost of Yotei
Successfully achieved the mission goal of being more Ghost of Tsushima, a game I adored a lot, but also to its own detriment since it leaves Yotei a bit lacking in self-identity. Visually stunning and aesthetically pleasing either way! Lethal mode is just as fun as ever.

For sure, its not a bad game at all just not one Im entirely in the mindset for right now with other stuff on my plate. Had it been a bit less crowded I would have scratched a particular kind of itch.

Plus y'know, gotta support Spanish-speaking studios and all that.

48. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
I dig the blend of linear 2d levels and The Messenger-style combat, but prob not enough to see me complete all of the secret missions and what I assume is a "true" ending. Feels very much like a score attack/perfect run kinda game.

As another relative lurker, I see it as a good thing that you don't feel the need to put yourself out there on social media. Even if you aren't actively posting or engaging, I'm sure others are like me in that they like having /an/ way of making contact if necessary, with no pressure to stay "on".

47. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
An improvement over the first game by every measurable metric and one of the best looking games this generation on a technical level.

The last 4 chapters are the most Hideo Kojima writing that Hideo Kojima has ever Hideo Kojima'd (wouldn't have it any other way).

I play(ed) both Tsushima and now this game on the "hardest" difficulty, which turns them into open world Bushido Blade (you die in 1-3 consecutive hits, but so does every enemy in the game) and is very fun since the games load lightning fast, so dying just zips you right back to where you just were.
