Another once great public uni decides, for no comprehensible reason, to cut its own throat. Madness.
They are really planning to go through with these cuts at Nebraska, despite recommendations not to. Unbelievable.
If you want to hire highly qualified, very successful earth and atmospheric sciences faculty in teaching and research, quite a few are probably looking for jobs for next year.

This is, in a very weird way, how privatization was sold to a lot of people in post-communist Europe who had no idea what they were being told/sold.
Except for all its flaws, that kind of made more sense.

Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Remember when the same folks who probably love this criticized health care workers for blowing off steam during the very worst of Covid?
This is why they were in downtown Chicago today.

Nuremberg Trials are the moderate stance

The 2026 congressional ballot polls might look interesting in coming days.

He didn’t like his first vice president very much either.
Trump: "I want my cabinet to behave like [Xi Jinping's staff]. I'm demanding that....I've never seen men so scared in their lives...JD doesn't behave like that. JD butts into conversations."

Lots of fascinating down ballot races tonight. Here’s one: a competitive runoff in a super GOP Texas state seat.
Democrat Rehmet, Republican Wambsganss appear headed to runoff in special election for North Texas Senate seat.
Rehmet, Wambsganss head to runoff in Senate special election
With the GOP vote fractured between Wambsganss and another Republican, Rehmet narrowly led the three-person contest for the red-leaning district.

Why should you 🫵🏿 care about SNAP? SNAP recipients saw:
- Improved life expectancy
- Lower chance of incarceration
- Lowers chance of poverty
- Lived in better neighborhoods
- Higher human capital
SNAP keeps our neighbors fed, communities safer, and kids educated. Also people are HUNGRY. DUH!

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a new mRNA vaccine that has been shown to suppress abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, offering hope to MILLIONS of patients with age-related vision loss. The vaccine triggered strong antibody responses that REDUCED retinal damage by UP TO 85%.

When I was back home I spent an afternoon volunteering at the food bank my mom helps run. It’s in a mid sized Midwestern city. It was pretty eye opening. These are people who are really reliant on the social safety net that the BBB slashed. Here’s a list of observations 1/x

This map shows how many people per county will be left hungry when the MAGA regime ends SNAP.
It also reveals the ongoing legacies of enslavement & genocide.
The most impacted areas (dark green) are Native American reservations & the southern Black Belt. That’s deliberate @getfree-mvmt.bsky.social

Apropo of nothing, thinking a lot about Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, an old, physically and mentally unwell man. Popular with nationalists at home. Launched a series of costly and ill-fated military moves. Created an image of a superpower divorced from reality. Drove the economy into the ground.
