🧵 It’s 🏳️‍🌈LGBT+ History month in the UK 🏳️‍🌈. So let me take you back to a time when life for gay people in this country was very different indeed.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between "direct" and "indirect" racist abuse, and why is one better than the other?
NEW: Asked about allegations of racist abuse when he was at school, Farage reiterates his denials. He says Peter Ettedgui, who has spoken to the Guardian and the BBC is "the one person who said I directly abused him". He claims political bias in other allegations.

My phone just decided to treat me to a "memories" photo album entitled Cuddles and Purrs which featured not only my dead mum but no fewer than three of my dead pets set to delightfully cheery music. Cheers mate!

👇. The number of times I've had to patiently explain that they are *all* my "real" brothers...
Can people PLEASE use terms other than "real" parent when discussing adoption around children. Think about how this sounds to adopted kids, many of whom have experienced trauma, loss, neglect, rejection and worse. "Birth/biological" parent is more sensitive, or "tummy mummy" if they're very young.

Only a few hours to go before we can start endlessly speculating about what will be in next year's budget, folks!!

And it was the BEST THING that had happened ANYWHERE, EVER.
On this day in 1983, The Five Doctors was originally broadcast in the U.K. (as part of Children in Need night). The Five Doctors had already debuted two days earlier in America.

Just looked at my diary to try to schedule a couple of things and I realise I've run out of year. Which is weird, because I'm pretty sure it's still about April.

The absolute worst remake was when the Americans turned Penda's Fen into Dawson's Creek.

"Well, there's the Street of Shame pages done" I cheerily said to Ian at 5 o'clock last night. "I expect we'll have to rip them up and start again on Monday as usual".

By the miracles of modern technology, you can now watch, as well as listen, to the podcast whose AI transcript very unfairly described me as “the massive florid legal expert” when I tried to explain how libel trials work in a particular US state.

Can I just say I'm glad they don't?
Sir Peter Riddell, the former Commissioner for Public Appointments, speaking about standards in public life just now:

"I had a rule...If something [I did] appeared in Private Eye, could I defend it?"

If ministers adopted the "Private Eye principle, they might have avoided a few problems."

You already have a continuity where Judi Dench didn't notice when he got a new head, and then no one in Mi6 went "Blofeld? What, like that bloke we were always battling in the old days, all five of him?"
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Have just had thousand island dressing for the first time since (I think) the Pizza Hut salad bar in the 90s. Mind blown. From now on intend to only eat anything if it is covered in thousand island dressing.
