I'm genuinely flummoxed as to how anyone is talking about a "grand bargain" while the Alberta government and the oil industry is actively opposed to the federal carbon price on industrial emissions.

The oil & gas industry's position is the literal definition of 'bad faith'. There's no bargain, grand or otherwise, in sight. Industry and its captured politicians aim to scrap all federal climate policy. Carney must dramatically increase regulatory integrity/ambition & impose the federal backstop.

Canada's #climate obligations are legally binding, enshrined in Canadian domestic law - the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act - passed in 2021.

It's not possible for these projects to align with these obligations.

@aaronwherry.bsky.social analysis on this file is characteristically on-point. As someone who's been involved in Canada's pipeline politics for 20 years, it's obvious this project will never get built. @mark-carney.bsky.social and other leaders should avoid such an obvious political trap.

Meanwhile, Enbridge’s CEO just called again (during a speech in Toronto) for industrial pricing to end, which is another reminder that the oil and gas industry is not serious about carbon capture, and Carney will need to play hardball if he is.

@mark-carney.bsky.social government has scrapped the consumer carbon price, delayed the ZEV mandate, allowed the Canada Greener Homes Loan program to expire - while failing to finalize the Methane regulations, failing to enforce provincial equivalency, and plotting an end to oil & gas emissions cap.

This all correct - except for solar being 'of little interest to investors'. We see massive investment in solar globally with healthy profits. Global solar PV investment rose to $386 billion this year, up 10% since the start of 2025.

Yes. LNG Canada 2 already had federal approval. The project only lacks a final investment decision (FID) from the consortium because lenders/ investors are rightly wary project economics. Is @mark-carney.bsky.social about to give private companies billions in new, public #fossilfuel subsidies?
