got around to playing Ray Frank's Having Company, a quake 2 mod that I am now convinced is one of the greatest surrealist masterpieces of our time. if you like weird shit and the aesthetics of amateur fan maps, you need to try this. I can't remember the last time a game made me laugh this much.

Bad thing about sleeping most of the day is now I get to lay awake all night.

we got those dudes, bless their hearts, trying to make humidity capture systems with fancy plastics and other unique materials, meanwhile other people are weaving gigantic baskets in the desert that do just as well without needing the infrastructure of a large nation to execute on the idea

And that's the thing, only the end result is shown and not what was necessary to get there; also, it's not paradise, it'll never be paradise, it's still hard work, and I feel an over reliance on deep infrastructure tech is kinda how we got here in the first place.

The idyllic yogurt ad aesthetic of the solarpunk movement has many valid critiques against it that I feel could be ameliorated if it's acknowledged that the "punk" aspect involves all those native grasses, wildflower fields, solar panels, and wind farms are built atop the mass graves of CEOs.
