I'm planning a Viking-themed campaign, and sat with a space nerd to hash out some details after using a generator.

It's got two omnipresent suns in a red sky bathing half the planet in eternal twilight, under the watchful eye of many moons. Plants tend to present in autumn colors.

My solution was to try to remember to hand one out to everyone each hour and, more generally applied to metacurrency in any game, allow them to use a Hero Point to adjust the state of a check (crit fail -> fail, or fail -> success, etc.).

Rewarded a player with a *limited wish* for getting to a point where he can dual class into MU as part of his prestige track since he's also doing something his patron would wholly approve of.

Last night, nearly all of their enemies got surprised. So many dead ghouls. They also chatted up gnolls and freed some prisoners that fought for them.

Got separated by a gate and fought some harpies + ghouls, two were paralyzed. They ended up with a 7-spell scroll, ~3k 🪙 each, and more.

The campaign you run in that precious timeslot can be structured in the same way. Players start in town, have an agreed-upon activity with enough notice for you to prep it, then they go out and do as much as they can before returning to town at the end of the session. It's how I run my AD&D game.

Retreating from that, as half the party still could not gaze upon it or approach, they found another set of stairs in a vestry that they began to descend as we ended the session.

They found a few sacrificial sites with old, broken equipment lying about. The cleric took the time to bless one of the pools used in that way.

They found a throne of basalt sitting on flagstones in a mosaic pattern.

They descended grand stairs only to find another set of those bronze doors.

Giant bronze doors in their path, half the party found themselves unwilling to gaze upon it or approach closer.

They found another entrance to one side, locked and barred. Once unlocked, the elf thief climb up, broke a window, and let the party in from the other side.

Party had to take a small detour on their way to the Temple to avoid an army of goblins, but arrived at the vile compound they did. 70 giant rats later, and with a Ranger Lord accompanying them, they approached the main building.

No game this past Saturday, owing to a friend's/player's zine launch for Battletech and the arrival of a puppy.

That said, work is underway so that the titular dungeon Temple of Elemental Evil will be ready for them to conquer or die in.

I'm learning that one of the wildest things I've done as a GM, according to some, is run the Kingmaker 2e module for seven players.

We used the GAB, FA, Stamina, and the Slow Leveling track.

We averaged 2-3 combat encounters per 4 hour session. Max was four or five.

The party wanted to try their hand at clearing hexes for a building they want to renovate. There's 31 1-mile hexes to clear. The second one contained an ogre lair that the rest of the session was focused on removing. About 3.5k gold per PC afterwards.

For what it's worth, I've used this site to make two homebrew AD&D 1e classes. While it was intended for use with 5e, that's mostly just a matter of formatting.

The demon was summoned in response to a PC forcing their way upstairs after being asked not to. Vrocks don't have any particular immunity to the mundane, but they do have a very high AC and attack five times per round.

The party decided to visit a windmill in the mountains they'd heard rumors of. Turned out to be the lair for a coven of hags. One PC ate a drugged pie and spent 8 hours catatonic while another got shredded by a demon. One death, hella treasure.
