I am trying to think of a proper American analogy for a friend who has never heard of Moshe Ya’alon. Like is the analogy General Kelly calling Trump a fascist? Like, kind of… but this seems bigger than that somehow, because of the layer @joelhs.bsky.social points out about IHRA.

I have a perhaps ignorant question — when they say “federal agents” took Lemon and the other reporters into custody… which agency do they mean? Was it ICE? FBI? Something else?

Also this guy is not wearing a facial covering and is doing it on camera…. So like, what are we doing here thinking a mask ban and a body cam will solve it?

That was an ICE officer in Minnesota, clearly violating the First Amendment. From threatening onlookers with violence to telling people recording them that they are going into a “domestic terrorist” database.

Like even IF you believe bodycams are a positive step toward accountability (nevermind that Renee Good’s murderer filmed the murder himself! Or that bodycams don’t seem to prevent abuse) why would you believe that this organization would abide by the rules to wear them or keep them running?
Here’s what I don’t get about Schumer et al pushing for reform rather than abolishment of ICE: ICE breaks the rules & laws that are ALREADY in place. Why do they believe that ICE agents would abide by new restrictions?
