I write and talk about the NBA, especially the salary cap, CBA and roster construction stuff. I do these things for Spotrac, NBA Front Office Show and The Basketball Bulletin. Any nonsense you see here is from me, not my employers.
As a girl dad of a daughter who loves, plays and wants to work in sports, I'd be remiss to not offer all the amazing girls and women out there a happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! Keep doing big things!

The James Harden-Darius Garland trade is now official.

Going back to the Trae Young trade, we've seen:

14 total NBA trades (some may yet be combined)
41 unique players trades
27 unique draft picks traded

Just under 22 hours until the NBA Trade deadline!

Jock Landale is a nice pickup for Atlanta. They needed center depth and Landale has put together a nice season, while on a minimum contract.

The Cavs will be roughly $3.8M away from getting under the second apron after trading Lonzo Ball to the Jazz.

Ball will presumably go into what remains of the John Collins' TPE.

While we're in a lull: I was talking to a friend today about the trade deadlines in the late-90s/early-2000s. I would sit in the AOL Basketball chatroom with 30ish other hoopheads (30ish was the max allowed in one room). People would post updates from local radio, because that as "live" as we had.

Idea, if the NBA ever scraps the ASG:
Take a seven-day midseason break. Put the trade deadline on Day 4 or 5 of the break. This way we don't have games impacted by wonky rosters for days while trades finalize & players move around. (I do love some weird-roster game, but it's a bad product for fans.)

It's hard to keep track sometimes, but of all the flurry of reported deals over the last two days, here are the ones that have gone official and been processed:

🏀Jazz-Grizzlies JJJ trade
🏀Bulls-Pistons-Wolves Huerter-Ivey-Conley trade
🏀Hornets-Thunder Plumlee-Dieng trade
February 4, 2026 at 9:11 PM
The Ousmane Dieng for Mason Plumlee deal is now official.
February 4, 2026 at 9:05 PM
The LA Clippers now have two open roster spots and more than enough room under their first-apron hard cap to sign Jordan Miller and Kobe Sanders to standard contracts.
February 4, 2026 at 8:55 PM
The CHA-CHI-OKC-PHI trade probably won't get put together as one big trade. Could be reaggregation/roster spot issues that way. I think it'll go like this:
Dieng to CHA for Plumlee to OKC
Plumlee waived by OKC
McCain to OKC into a TPE
Then CHA trades Sexton for White, Dieng for Conley or vice versa.

The "Grit 'n' Grind" Grizzlies and this most recent versions of the Grizzlies are great examples that you don't need to win a title to be become beloved. Play hard, love the city and they'll love you back. May not end with a title but a whole lot of fun was had and memories made.

After being active for the Philadelphia 76ers last night, Jabari Walker has used all of 50 games of his NBA eligibility while on his two-way contract.

Walker cannot be active for any more NBA games with the Sixers unless he's converted/signed to a standard contract.

It's probably me being a technology idiot, but is there a way to keep your desktop icons from moving all around when you undock a laptop?

Closing the loop on the Pistons-Bulls-Wolves trade, which went official last night:

Detroit waived Isaac Jones to create the roster spot to take in 2-for-1 in the trade.

Really convenient time for the internet to be down for going on 9 hours now. Yes, it’s a first-world problem. No, I don’t feel bad being cranky about it.
February 4, 2026 at 1:26 PM
If you’ve followed for a while, you know I’m big on self-accountability. In the spirit of that: I could not have been more wrong about the Phoenix Suns. Such a good and fun team. And winning these games without Devin Booker is big. Good stuff from the Suns all season!

Sorry everyone, but my internet is down (great timing, huh?), so no show tonight. Trevor and I will get back at it tomorrow with a live show recapping everything. See you then!
Later tonight, after the Lakers and Celtics games, we'll be back LIVE on @frontofficeshow.bsky.social ! Join @trevorlanenba.bsky.social and I as we break down the Simons-Vucevic and Harden-Garland trades. Plus, who knows what else!

Link to come when show is live.

Taking this even further, the only other player of the 60 players drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft who remains with his original team?

Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks.
With Jaren Jackson Jr. being traded, the only player drafted in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft that is still playing for the NBA team he originally debuted for is Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets.

And Bridges was drafted by the Clippers and traded to the Hornets.
