Thanks to Rich Lowry for my name. I fight harmful hysteria, pseudoscience/woo, fake medicine, contrarianism and conspiracy theories.
What do you call it when a group of conspiracy theorists goes camping.

So we replaced wildly irresponsible, greedy, recreational drug dealers with wildly irresponsible, greedy, recreational drug dealers. Who can openly advertise online.

Who thought this would go well and not be immediately abused?
Australia's medicinal cannabis situation is unattractive for politicians
There doesn't seem to be much political mileage for the government to do anything at all — whether that is cracking down and forcing cannabis users back onto the black market or fully legalising the s...

I nominated Ahmed al-Ahmed for a bravery award at the Governor General's website. I expect his acts today would earn him a Star of Courage, maybe a Cross of Valour.

Some people say it's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off Nakatomi Plaza. For me, it's not Christmas until B.Z (John Lithgow) floats up to his eventual suffocation in the vacuum of space on a magical candy cane

Oh, what a horrible thing to happen to the people of Sydney. My heart goes out to them.

There are reports of multiple shots fired.

Out on the patio we sit
And the humidity we breathe
We watch the lightning crack over cane fields
And laugh and think, "This is Australia"

This song is running through my head as I watch the summer storm from my patio

Sitting outside on the patio with a coffee, watching the summer afternoon storm. It's invigorating to feel it happening around you, but not feel cold (as it is summer and still just warm enough to be wearing shorts)

I'd be interested in hearing a *qualified* person (ie not Julie Inman Grant) explain how it's possibly consistent to treat Reddit as social media and yet say that Discord is not social media.

It's a bit like the UK trying to define "pop music" in law in the 60s.

Interesting how some people seem proud that their daily driver is a 40-year-old car, but then gleefully point out the depreciation on EVs as though everyone should sell their car after 5 years.

My old car lasted me 15 years before it became too small, I'll get the same life from my new car.

"In my 1975 Ford pickup I can fill up with diesel in five minutes"

I laugh when somebody boasts that they are driving a rusty old shitbox that would kill them if they crashed at 60kph

Day 2: Bluesky, a social media network supposedly required to verify my age, has not asked me for my age.

At this point I've probably laughed at Julie Inman more than I have John Inman.

Bluesky doesn't have a photo of me. I am in Australia. I have had my account for only a year-ish. Bluesky has not challenged me to verify my age. #esafety

If the City of Rockingham's red bins are still full-sized, honestly there's little for residents to complain about. The red bins are sufficiently large for our family, even when we had a baby in nappies (the smell isn't nice for two weeks but it's not THAT bad).
Angry locals deal with maggots, rotting rubbish after Rockingham bin changes
Perth residents say they are dealing with an "infestation of maggots" and stinking rubbish after the introduction of a third bin for food and garden waste. But the local council is adamant it will not...

Wondering if I should buy a V2L adapter for the car before our trip Douth in January. Might be useful to power a portable cooktop if we are picnicked somewhere without a barbeque.

My 4-year-old son likes board games. So much so that he even likes chess, despite rarely being able to remember how each piece moves.

He insisted on playing against my wife, who hasn't played in decades. After only a few turns I saw that he could checkmate her in one move, told him how, and he won!

Encountered my first broken public charger today. I didn't need a charge, but I was going to a popular event and having difficulty finding a parking space. I saw an EV charging spot and decided that's a good parking space. I pulled in and connected but the charger was broken.

My two favourite radio stations to listen to in the car right now:

Old Skool '90s Hits
Coles Radio

Until I bought a digital radio I didn't know that Coles Radio even existed outside the supermarket, but it does. Not a bad playlist, but they don't have a news broadcast (the 90s station does tho)

Saw a scammy YouTube ad for an air conditioner. All the warning signs - a plucky solo inventor, a big industry trying to shut him down, bold inflated claims.

I went to their website and it is LITERALLY written by an LLM that was obviously asked "Would Epicooler be suitable for me"

Going to an EV article and commenting "I can fill up with fuel in 5 minutes" is like going to a caravanning article and commenting "my hotel room has a coffee maker".

Hang on - "Book one in the series"? I never knew it was a series!
This book has been so soothing. I have probably learned more about the foreign policies that shape the world just in the first three chapters than I have in at least the last 15 years of news media. 🙃 It's helped clarify a lot of the absolutely batshit nonsense of the current timeline. COMFORT READ
