If the City of Rockingham's red bins are still full-sized, honestly there's little for residents to complain about. The red bins are sufficiently large for our family, even when we had a baby in nappies (the smell isn't nice for two weeks but it's not THAT bad).
Angry locals deal with maggots, rotting rubbish after Rockingham bin changes
Perth residents say they are dealing with an "infestation of maggots" and stinking rubbish after the introduction of a third bin for food and garden waste. But the local council is adamant it will not...

Wondering if I should buy a V2L adapter for the car before our trip Douth in January. Might be useful to power a portable cooktop if we are picnicked somewhere without a barbeque.

My 4-year-old son likes board games. So much so that he even likes chess, despite rarely being able to remember how each piece moves.

He insisted on playing against my wife, who hasn't played in decades. After only a few turns I saw that he could checkmate her in one move, told him how, and he won!

Encountered my first broken public charger today. I didn't need a charge, but I was going to a popular event and having difficulty finding a parking space. I saw an EV charging spot and decided that's a good parking space. I pulled in and connected but the charger was broken.

My two favourite radio stations to listen to in the car right now:

Old Skool '90s Hits
Coles Radio

Until I bought a digital radio I didn't know that Coles Radio even existed outside the supermarket, but it does. Not a bad playlist, but they don't have a news broadcast (the 90s station does tho)

What fucking "fog of war"? There exists no state of war, and the other party had not fired a shot.

Saw a scammy YouTube ad for an air conditioner. All the warning signs - a plucky solo inventor, a big industry trying to shut him down, bold inflated claims.

I went to their website and it is LITERALLY written by an LLM that was obviously asked "Would Epicooler be suitable for me"

Hang on - "Book one in the series"? I never knew it was a series!
This book has been so soothing. I have probably learned more about the foreign policies that shape the world just in the first three chapters than I have in at least the last 15 years of news media. 🙃 It's helped clarify a lot of the absolutely batshit nonsense of the current timeline. COMFORT READ

While this piece has a lot of rhetoric of its own and very little evidence cited to back it up, which is hugely ironic, it is definitely thought provoking.

We may refer to AI-generated content as "slop", but I have a lovely story.

My father wrote a song 20 years ago while driving to work and wishing he was back in the town where he grew up. He wrote a melody and chords, and was very proud of the song.

I took the song and put it into Suno to make >

I am a parent. How DARE she claim to speak for me, to be "on my side", to imply that anyone who disagrees is somehow against parents.

My local pizza shop is, unbelievably, around the same price as Dominos but with a much better menu. The only reason we order Dominos is literally because they can cater for the two members of our family who are vegan.
Would you like inflation with that? Pumping up pizza prices to punish households
Suburban pizza parlour franchisor Domino's is planning to jack up prices to increase its profits — another example of how oligopolies push up inflation in Australia.

Honestly, investors are probably concerned by trying to take on the two strongholds of Mexican food.

GYG doesn't need to expand to the USA. Ever. There's *plenty* of places in the world that don't already have fierce competition for Mexican food.

Decided that there's a possibility that the electrician won't show up on Tuesday (hey, it's always possible) so I went to the charging station at Coles. In the hour it took me to do my grocery shopping, I replenished 50% of my battery (100kw being shared among four cars).

Really simple and no fuss.

"The power grid would fail if everyone had EVs and had to charge them"

This is one of those statements that sounds reasonable, until you really unpack it.

An EV can be charged with 1500 watts; that's the minimum, but 2400w is more common. So every household would be using 2400w more, for some >

My old external power point is getting worse. Now when I plug in the EV, the switch on the power point gets *hot*. And that's at only 1.5kw! Needless to say, I won't be charging with it again.

Good news: Car has plenty sufficient range until Tuesday when the electrician puts in a new 15amp point.

Cookers in my state have now decided that the system of tapping a credit card to pay for public transport is "digital ID", but the digital identification on a chip inside their passports since 2009 is, somehow, not "digital ID".

I think I've been operating my EV in "Eco" driving mode all this time.

If I push the accelerator hard I accelerate so fast I feel kind of scared, like a thrill ride. And that's on Eco mode?

Not even sure I want to try "Sport" mode, lol
