Thanks to Rich Lowry for my name. I fight harmful hysteria, pseudoscience/woo, fake medicine, contrarianism and conspiracy theories.
On a tarpaulin in the shed, lol

Haha, I think she was relieved actually as she didn't really want to play!

I was never very good at chess, but I did play for leisure in school. Always lost though :)

As for maggots, never had them as far as I can tell, and we've been on Fogo for ages

And if he gets in on the One Nation ticket, he'll promptly resign from the party and be an independent. They all do.

He had brought out his knight quickly and my wife had neglected to clear any space for her king to move, that's how he got her, haha

I know it was by accident (after he checkmated her he didn't realize the game was over, lol) but I'm still grinning with pride and amusement.

Buy whatever car suits your needs, of course. If this is genuinely your requirements, to do this trip in one hit, then an ICE will work for you and an EV won't. But it's far from an average use case.

If you are doing 1200km-one-way car trips more than a small handful of times in your life, you are not "Joe Average".

I've never even done such a trip. I know somebody who did this - once.

This sort of slog is unpleasantly long and boring. There are people who are into it, but they aren't average.

Yeah I've got a 2023 Niro EV as well! It's a decent car and I love it. There's a few things that could be better but it's still the best car I've ever driven. Can't wait to take it to Dunsborough in a few months.

I saw a headline today that the rate of growth of the EV market in the USA has fallen.

The rate of growth.

As in, it's still growing.

I'm not convinced there would be a drastic increase in electricity use.

You've just been through Thanksgiving. Most of your households roast a turkey, right? Several hours of an oven running in every household.

Charging an EV doesn't necessarily require more than that power draw.

Nobody wants to pay for a battery swap and then get a battery that has been abused and have to pay again to swap it out.

The idea of hiring a bigger battery in order to do a long roadtrip is a decent idea, if there's somewhere to put it in-attached to the car that won't kill range.

1. Who cares? It's only dirt.
2. Who cares? We can make more.
3. Probably very little. The majority of cobalt is mined without children or slaves. Funny how this only cited as a problem for EV batteries, when cobalt is used on petroleum production...

BYD is going gangbusters in Australia and they actually seem to be good cars too.

As a computer science-y guy I acknowledge that fingerprints aren't guaranteed to be unique. I suspect, having done no research at all, that there are in fact plenty of people who have/had a fingerprint indistinguishable from a fingerprint on somebody else.

Ahh. I was thinking specifically of regular HEVs that don't come in PHEV or EV models. Hadn't thought about those that accommodate multiple fuel options.

Don't hybrids keep the traction battery under the rear seat?

Criminology and forensics contains much more pseudoscience than anyone should be comfortable with.

It's the adrenochrome IV! Though that probably proves adrenochrome is not an anti-aging drug...
