You cannot fire so many people and shutter so many agencies and services and not expect things to start to go very bad very quickly.

R's are betting they can target extra cuts to their rural base, because R's also have a stranglehold on those folks information diets.
That's a high risk/high reward strategy and a potential vulnerability
